If that wasn’t enough there’s also the small matter of this rather fine debut album from acclaimed producer Freddie Crugers’s 3 Foot High People project. Dropping on his own downtempo hip hop imprint Homegrown (a hint if ever there was one), 3 Foot High and Rising is a collection of dope beats so fragrant you can almost taste the ganja smoke. There’s dubbed out soundscapes, deep soul excursions (including the superb ‘On My Way’ with vocalist Linn), sampladelic beats and stoned funk aplenty, alongside the sort of sweet, jazz tinged hip hop instrumentals that would once have been called trip hop. On the whole, it’s impeccable stuff, expertly crafted downtempo fare that never descends into stoned sloppiness or identikit chill-out tedium.
