Sanctuary Records announces the debut release of Athens, GA based band Acetate with This Band Makes Me Feel, to be released on March 22, 2005.
Acetate is Dave Schools (Widespread Panic, Stockholm Syndrome) on bass guitar and vocals, Kevin Sweeney (Hayride, Sunshine Fix) on guitar and vocals, and Ben Mize (Counting Crows, Cracker) on drums and vocals. Three longtime chums from Athens who got together in 2003 to jam and found they had rediscovered the meaning of “garage band,” and the simple pleasure of playing music without rules or expectation.
From deep within Dave School’s basement, the music flowed so organically on the first day that two original songs were written. The guys continued to play when they could find time off from their respective bands. Quickly armed with an album’s worth of songs, they began to record their DIY basement sessions spawning what would become their debut CD. With the freedom to do whatever they wanted, when time came for artwork they chose a friend’s drawing from a cocktail napkin. Dave Schools explains “we came to realize that it is still possible to feel like a bunch of high school kids in your parents basement after school….more than anything its about having fun.”
Dave describes the band’s sound as “coffee oriented power pop.” With common love for the best power pop rock bands such as Cheap Trick, the guys lay down heavy metal inspired riff songs, with choruses that take from anthemic pop tunes layered with catchy harmony hooks. “It’s really about us allowing ourselves to blend all the different styles that we really enjoy” Schools says.
Acetate brings their “garage rock” to the masses via the basement with This Band Makes Me Feel on March 22, 2005.
