Punkcore records first ever Canadian act has arrived on American soil, with a message: “We intend to make punk a threat again.” A bold statement coming from five young Toronto punks, currently having been a unit for no more than just over a year, playing locally and occassionally abroad. Action relies heavily on the raging intensity of British, Scandinavian and American hardcore.

    Action

Apparent in their sound, influences from such stalwarts like The Varukers, Crucifix, Conflict, Riistetyt, and Battallion of Saints are obvious. However, despite such specific comparisons, Action manages to distance themselves from their peers with a fresh perspective and musical ingenuity. Whether an acoustic solo in one song, or poetic lyrical artistry in another, Action all the while maintains an aggressive, relentless hardcore attack meant to keep your eyes open and your mind alert. Lyrically, the band covers current issues begging for dissection: the US military’s occupation of Iraq, Toronto’s increasing gang-violence problems, poverty and the resignation it breeds, religious fanaticism, the Toronto police’s “war on protest” and the romanticized glorification of war. Expect no stone to be unturned in Action’s future. Amidst a growing popularity for meaningless, disposable “drunk punk” in a turbulent time deserving of a more focused, political approach, Action intends to shake you out of your daydream, place a brick in your hand, and motivate you to “make punk a threat again”.
