The Puerto Rican binomial of Alexis & Fido, one of the most transcendental in the world of urban Latin music, is back with a new musical proposition, “Sobrenatural” (Supernatural, to be released at the end of October), their third one since they joined forces in 2002. What Raúl Ortiz (Alexis) and Joel Martínez (Fido), better known as “El Dúo Sobrenatural” (or The Supernatural Duo), offer in their new album is daring enough for it to become one of the most ambitious musical projects of 2008.
From the moment Alexis & Fido became a team, they decided to give urban Latin music, specifically reggaetón, a different touch, with an original style that has made them favorites all over the world.
In the beginning, songs such as ‘Gata Racing,’ ‘El Palo,’ ‘El Rolo,’ ‘Gata Michu Michu,’ ‘Tócale Bocina’ and ‘Quisiera Quedarme,’ placed these young artists among the Top 10 of the urban genre in markets such as their native Puerto Rico and in Central and South America as well. But it was the song ‘El Tiburón,’ maybe the most important one of their careers so far, that brought the respect and the reception that they deserved among Latino audiences in the United Status.
Says Fido: “[The album] ‘The Pitbulls’ (2005) was the one that made us stand out in the reggaetón market and gave us recognition abroad. Then came ‘Los Reyes del Perreo’ (The Kings of Perreo, 2006), which was seen as a collector’s disc, and in which we put together all the songs that made us known during the genre’s initial stage; back then, it was underground urban music.”
The single ‘Eso Ehh...!’ was the first track to be promoted from their debut production, “The Pitbulls”, an album that sold over 200,000 copies. After appearing in other artists’ records, Alexis & Fido became “Los Reyes del Perreo,” also the name of their second production. The song ‘Me Quiere Besar’ proved that the Alexis & Fido recipe was well accepted by urban music fans.
Today, still maintaining their essence, they present “Sobrenatural”.
“We have worked on this record with a lot of love and dedication,” says Alexis. “And, honestly, we have faith that it can be one of the most interesting musical projects that will attract the world’s music industry.”
The musical quality and professionalism of “Sobrenatural” become evident in its team of producers, including Los Presidentes and Los Mambo Kingz.
From the 14 tracks that make up “Sobrenatural”, there’s a first single, ‘5 Letras,’ already in the top spots of the music charts in Puerto Rico and in the United States, creating great expectations among those fans that eagerly await this new production.
“Sobrenatural” features a series of special guests that take the album to another level: Puerto Rican New Yorker Toby Love, urban Latin star Julio Voltio, El Lápiz, Jadiel El León, De La Ghetto, Trops, Erick Right, Primer Mandatario and Los Yetzons, who are signed to Wild Dogz Music, Alexis & Fido’s record label.
Before the end of 2007, Alexis & Fido will be presenting a massive concert at Puerto Rico’s Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot, or “Choliseo,” with their “Sobrenatural” show. In November, they begin their tour titled “Yo Soy Barrio” and, in 2008, they will be visiting Latin America and Europe. These young composers, singers and now businessmen, are also preparing themselves to become event producers.
This year, and for years to come, there will be something “Sobrenatural” thanks to Alexis & Fido.
