At 18 most major labels could see Alicia's obvious talents, and she became the object of a bidding war to sign her, eventually ending with her signing to Arista.

Now I can see you all looking at the album cover and thinking 'Who the hell is Alicia Keys?':?. Well you are looking at one of the hottest new artists around. At 18 most major labels could see Alicia's obvious talents, and she became the object of a bidding war to sign her, eventually ending with her signing to Arista.
Now 20 and signed to newly begun J Records she releases her fabulous debut album Songs In A Minor. The album is a diverse mixture of Hip-Hop, RnB, and her own classical influences, Alicia is a classically trained pianist and brings her astounding piano playing to each track from the first to the last.
Talented way beyond her years she not only includes herself in the production of this album, which she has been writing since the age of 14, but also plays the majority of the other instruments used, arranges and does the backgrounds on every track. There are 2 of the 15 tracks which don't involve Alicia's writing in someway, however when these happen to be written by Brian McKnight ('Never Felt This Way') & Prince ('How Come You Don't Call Me') who don't write for just anybody, you can see how far this young lady is destined to go.
As for tracks to note, I have to say that for definite you have to listen to 'Butterflyz?', not only does it display perfectly Alicia's piano playing, but also her amazing vocal ability. Her first single release 'Fallin' is another example of her piano playing but is more jazzy and soulful. You will also enjoy 'Girlfriend' which features SoSoDef's Jermaine Dupri, 'The Life', and 'Jane Doe' which is a collaboration with Kandi Burruss.
Remember where you were when you first heard about Alicia Keys, she is gonna be big and around for a long time!.
