Amy Macdonald was looking to perform a special Christmas song for her show at "The Barras" (as they are known) and "Fairytale of New York" is very famous in UK. In her opinion, it's probably the "coolest 'non traditional' song there is" so thought she would give it a go. Her voice is reminiscent of the late Kirsty MacColl, so there are some apparent links there as well as her bass player, Jamie sounding quite similar to Shane Mcgowan who sings the original. All in all, it was one of those songs that just worked.
We are still loving "Fairytale of New York" music video by Amy Macdonald (a Thumbs Up!) although its been over three months since was given a 'Thumbs Up' here at MusicRemedy (December, 2008).
An oldie but didnot make it to 'goodie'. Apparantly not enough attention to make it to the top. A pity...
