(12/18/2008) While Asobi Seksu's creative core explored music at an early age (lead vocalist/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate got standing ovations at child prodigy recitals when she was just 8; guitarist/vocalist James Hanna bounced between sludgy hardcore and Mogwai-schooled post-rock in his teens), their potential 'career' wasn't put into perspective until a stint at the Manhattan School of Music. And by put into perspective, we mean finding out what they didn't want to do.

Asobi Seksu: Citrus
(11/10/2008) Asobi Seksu released their critically acclaimed second album, Citrus, in 2006. For those wishing to experience the album in all its hi-fidelity, technicolor glory we’ve released it on vinyl. Available in a gatefold and pressed on 180 gram vinyl, the album comes with a digital download code and bonus mp3 remixes by CSS and Ulrich Schnauss. It’s limited to a pressing of 1000 copies. Asobi Seksu’s next full length album will be coming out in early 2009 on Polyvinyl.
The album is eleven slices of guitar-swirling, sweet-and-sour, bilingual dream pop. Frontwoman Yuki’s voice is more assured than ever, swinging from a girlish falsetto to plaintive laments and switching effortlessly between Japanese and English lyrics, all the while anchored by the lush, turbulent guitar of James Hanna.
