Athens 2004 Olympics 'Unity: The Official Athens 2004 Olympics' album

Capitol Records/EMI Music has announced a July 27, 2004 release date for ‘Unity’, an extra special album that is the only official ATHENS 2004 Olympics pop album.

EMI Music has secured an eclectic mix of top international artists to appear on ‘Unity’. Hailing from 15 different countries across four continents, contributors to ‘Unity’ include Lenny Kravitz, Sting, Destiny’s Child, Avril Lavigne, Tarkan and Kadim Al Sahir. With an underlying theme of harmony and peace, most of the 16 tracks on ‘Unity’ feature two or more artists performing together. Songs on ‘Unity’ include duets by Earth Wind & Fire and Roots Manuva, Sting and Mariza, Moby and Public Enemy, Alice Cooper and Xzibit, Wayne Wonder and Neneh Cherry, Tiziano Ferro and Jamelia, and Macy Gray and Keziah Jones.

Like the Olympics, ‘Unity’ has brought together different races, cultures and religions in an environment of friendship and peace. All the artists appearing on ‘Unity’ hope that the album will make a difference by helping to raise pro-peace awareness around the world.

In association with the release of ‘Unity’, EMI Music will make a donation of at least US$180,000 to Unicef's vital HIV/AIDS programmes in sub-Saharan Africa.

In all there are three official ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games Albums, all of which will be released by EMI this summer. In addition to ‘Unity’, ‘Harmony’ is the official ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games Classical Album and ‘Phos’ is the official ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games Greek Album

“‘The Unity album’ is so much more than a collection of songs. It is a message of participation, friendship and peace,” said ATHENS 2004 president Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki. “We are delighted to have EMI supporting the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games. As the Olympic flame makes its way around the world for the first truly global Torch Relay, this album will also be an invitation for people everywhere to join us in the historic homecoming of the Olympic Games to Greece."
