Big Urban is the collaboration of emcee Krayola Spectrum on the mic and producer Scott Thorough on everything else. Both native to Brooklyn, Kray and Scott are members of the Nuclear Family, a Brooklyn hip-hop collective also including Baje One, DJ Snafu, Tone Tank, Probe Cellsplitter and N.E.M.C. Kray and Tone Tank make up the group Iller Than Theirs, who released their self-titled debut album on Embedded Records in 2007 and a follow-up, Wash, Rinse EP, in 2008. Scott is also a member of The Boys & Girls Club and also does production for Baje and Snafu's group Junk Science. Big Urban describes their music as "a failed attempt to make popular commercial rap music that failed horribly but came out sounding weird and interesting anyway." Their debut EP It's Not So Much The Heat, It's The Humidity will be released via Embedded Records this spring.
Big Urban biography
BIG as in huge, or, you know, generally large.
But also: Big as in magnanimous, generous or kindly, as in, "Whoa, that was BIG of you to forgive me for the horrible things I did a couple of weeks ago."
URBAN as in something pertaining to city-life;
as in "Urban Malaise" perhaps.
Kray does the Rapping. Scott Thorough plays all the instruments and sings. They were both born & raised in Brooklyn (80's babies), which of course explains why they tried to make a rap record.
Big Urban was their failed attempt to make popular commercial rap music that failed horribly but then came out weird and interesting anyway.
Their debut EP is called It's Not So Much The Heat, It's The Humidity cause that's something people say.
The Group:
Kray is part of another Rap Group called Iller Than Theirs ( myspace.com/illerthantheirs ). They released their self-titled debut album in 2007 on Embedded Records & a follow-up, Wash, Rinse EP in 2008.
Scott Thorough is a producer and part of the group The Boys And Girls Club (myspace.com/theboysandgirlsclub). He has also done a lot of work with the American Hip-Hop group Junk Science.
