Blue October soared past platinum sales and shattered glass ceilings with their 2006 breakthrough album Foiled. Aided by the jarringly frank anthem, "Hate Me" and the luxurious melancholy of "Into the Ocean," Foiled paved the way for this Alternative rock outfit to evolve from a beloved cult band into mainstream radio conquerors.
To follow-up on their newfound success, Blue October enlisted the help of Steve Lillywhite, the five-time Grammy Award-winning producer (U2, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz) to push them into new sonic territories.
Approaching Normal (Universal Motown) will be released on March 24th. The lead single "Dirt Room" --digitally released in December -- impacts Alternative on January 13th. The Texan quintet, led by front man and principal songwriter Justin Furstenfeld, and rounded out by violinist Ryan Delahoussaye, guitarist C.B. Hudson III, bassist Matt Noveskey, and drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, have been practicing their intense games of emotional give and take since forming in 1996.
The essence of Blue October is the band's live show and emotional interaction with its fans. "Frustration and getting it out," Furstenfeld says. "Or complete mad love. I try to live every song as I can. The ones that I wrote years ago, I can't take it back to that spot, but I try to sing it for the fans who are actually going through those situations."
Blue October have clearly benefited from twelve years of endless tour cycles, fortifying meaningful relationships with their fans, and playing two hundred shows in support of Foiled. To support the release of Approaching Normal, the band is expanding its sphere of touring beyond North America.
