The group who first blurred the lines between classical and pop and mind over matter is once again making a splash with their much-anticipated third release Classified, out June 15th on Decca. bond, the best-selling string quartet of all time has created a musical fantasy that becomes a visual feast on Classified.
bond's colorful mystique will materialize for American fans when the group kicks off their first ever US tour in August 2004. Dates will be announced shortly.
Teeming with epic and timeless settings, Classified's lead track and video, "Explosive" is set in a tropical third world country, where bond's forbidden music moves people to dance, much to the plight of the Government. Adorned with challenging compositions, bond play a much larger role on this album, writing over a third of the album themselves and lending vocals for the first time to the disco hit "Fly Robin Fly." The naturally string-heavy track flirts with bond's vocals and adds colorful textures to the music.
Classified was not created to neatly fit into today's limiting guidelines. Instead, it was created as a conversation piece that will incite thought, excitement and ultimately revelation among its listeners. Rooted in the sophistication of classical training, bond peppers Classified with influence from today's contemporaries and international cultures. Listen to "Samba" and hear a Latin-tinged melody, or "Senorita" laced with a Missy Elliott influence, while "Lullaby" harks back to the classic, Pachelbel's Canon.
James Bond fans have grown to expect films that feature exotic locales, beautiful women, interesting characters, and unlikely situations. bond gives those same qualities to its listeners with groundbreaking boundary defying production. Songs produced by Orion (The Verve, Dido) and Ed Leal could easily be spun at a club in Ibiza, performed by stunning talents from two continents all in a package that combines playful pop with traditional classic sounds.
At the center of Classified are four talented and beautiful women who comprise bond. Together Haylie Ecker (first violin), Eos Chater (second violin), Tania Davis (viola), and Gay-Yee Westerhoff (cello) created their debut, BORN that stayed in the US Classical Crossover charts for a total of 101 weeks and spent 57 weeks in the Top New Artist chart peaking at No. 1. bond's talents are celebrated all over the world: they regularly play to packed houses in Europe and Asia and have performed with Luciano Pavarotti at the great tenor's annual all-star charity concert "Pavarotti and Friends." bond's energy is contagious: from performances in NYC's Times Square for "Good Morning America" to opening the Asia MTV Awards in Singapore and kicking off the UK's prestigious Classical Brit Awards, bond's music is reaching millions and breaking records everywhere.
