The group, comprised of Masayuki Nakano and Michiyuki Kawashima, first surfaced in Europe in 1997. Since then, Boom Boom Satellites have continued to create pioneering music by integrating electronic and rock elements and have gained recognition as one of the most distinguished producer/performer teams in Japan.
Their first 12" single release in Europe garnered rave reviews from definitive European music magazines, such as Melody Maker, who compared the impact of their debut to the Chemical Brothers and Prodigy. In 1998 they traveled across the continent performing at 6 major rock festivals. Then, following a European tour with Underworld, they triumphantly returned to Japan to release their first album OUT LOUD in October of 1998.
The next year, following the US release of OUT LOUD on Epic, they moved their live performance base to the US and joined Moby on a 3-month tour around the states. Their music attracted a huge amount of critical acclaim, resulting in numerous remix projects, including collaborations with Garbage and Josh Wink.
Philosophically pursuing the spiritual world, while at the same time having an energy that is physical and untamed, Boom Boom Satellites' sound is an exquisite blend between the roughness of rock and meticulously calculated programming.
FULL OF ELEVATING PLEASURES, the band's first US release in almost 7 years, is a gospel rock 'n roll album that moves beyond the traditional boundaries of electronic music. The throbbing 12-song track list includes "Dive for you", the theme song for the much talked about anime feature film "APPLESEED". It's an album that suggests the unveiling of a new chapter in the history of Boom Boom Satellites.
