For the discerning connoisseur of guitar-driven pop nuggets, Teen Beat is pretty much a one-stop. The latest in a stand out line-up featuring Unrest, Versus, and +/-, Bossanova’s debut full-length Hey, Sugar upholds that legacy. Chris Storrow and various guest players (including folks from Black Mountain and New Pornographers) work through bright and restrained pop classicism, with organs and other sounds complimenting this rather epic statement. There's a particular mastery at work on this record that belies the fact that this is Bossanova's first major recording; here's an experience that could draw comparisons to Orange Juice, Section 25, and perhaps the happier side of Cure. But doing such is moot in the end, as Bossanova sounds like themselves. How bands can you say that about?
We gave "Rare Brazil" music video by Bossanova a listen and yeah, it's a nice song (November, 2006).
An oldie but didnot make it to 'goodie'. Apparantly not enough attention to make it to the top. A pity...
