Brooke Fraser is a New Zealand born and bred singer-songwriter. Having spent four years living in Australia, Brooke is now setting up home in Los Angeles, CA, as she prepares for the North American release of her album ALBERTINE (Wood& Bone – instores May 27) and a summer of touring with her US band.
ALBERTINE was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Marshall Altman and a crew of brilliant musicians from the LA scene. ALBERTINE has sold over five-times platinum in New Zealand and won accolades including two NZ Music Awards and the APRA Silver Scroll Songwriting Prize. The singles 'Deciphering Me’ and 'Shadowfeet' both reached 1 on the airplay charts. After spending the past 12 months performing sell-out theatre tours of New Zealand and Australia (where the album reached a high point of number three on the itunes album download chart) Brooke is now ready to show America what she’s got.
Brooke's debut album WHAT TO DO WITH DAYLIGHT (Columbia Records – 2004) also sold over seven times platinum in NZ as it sailed past 100,000 copies and broke all radio airplay records with four consecutive airplay number ones.
If you want to meet a funny, inspiring, captivating, talented individual whose songs will make you a friend and a fan for life, come join the myspace party here. Brooke blogs regularly on this site, she reads all your messages (or tries to - it was a bit easier before we had over 30,000 friends!), she obviously didn't write this cos she's far too humble.
personal things by Brooke Fraser
When I was a kid I was making pikelets (like silver-dollar pancakes) after school one day. Just as I popped one in my mouth, fresh from the pan, I sneezed. A vaccuum effect was set in motion and the entire pikelet was sucked up into my sinuses. I had a pikelet in my head. I was blowing out pieces of it through my nose for the next two hours. Highly uncomfortable.
The best coffee in the world is in Wellington, New Zealand. I urge you to partake if you ever get the opportunity.
The Sound of Music is my favourite movie. Last year for my mum's 50th birthday, we went to Austria and did the Sound of Music tour. Posed for photos in the gazebo thing, got our free edelweiss pins, the whole deal. So geeky. So awesome.
I have been to Rwanda every year for the past three years. It is a place very special to me. The need in our world is overwhelming, but our ability to each do our part (whether it may be sponsoring a child, giving online, signing an online petition or writing a letter/email) is easier (more accessible and convenient) than ever before. I encourage you to go to my website and check out the sites on my links page to investigate more, see how you can be involved in making the world a bit less crap, and meet some of the amazing people who are dedicating their lives to being of practical help to our hurting humanity.
I LOVE CSI
I pretty much stick with two brands of jeans... Iron Army (USA) and Nudie jeans (Sweden).
I wear jandals (flip flops for Americans, thongs for Aussies) a lot of the time. I can't wear high heels. I am un-co. I have to wear them sometimes for events etc, but I suffer.
I got married in March this year. My new last name has ten letters and three syllables. But I'm still Brooke Fraser for music purposes.
Sometimes people tell me I look like Brooke Fraser. Then they ask me if I get that a lot. I say yes, I do get that a lot. They are none the wiser.
