On October 5, multi-platinum alt standard-bearers CAKE will hit the road, kicking off a U.S. tour on the day they release their highly anticipated new album 'Pressure Chief' (Columbia).Joined on all dates by Northern State, the run will mark CAKE's first full solo tour in years as the band returns to extended headlining sets following their successful 'Unlimited Sunshine' multi-artist tour in 2002 and 2003. "We can't wait to hit the new material hard and play some of the well-oiled older favorites," says trumpeter Vince DiFiore.
This week "No Phone" - the first single from 'Pressure Chief' marked a breakout first week at radio, notching the #1 most added honors at commercial Alternative radio, and #2 most-added at AAA..
Representing the band's tightest, most musically urgent work to date, the 11 songs on 'Pressure Chief' were recorded in a converted house in CAKE's hometown of Sacramento -- the band's first album recorded outside of a studio. With their trademark minimalism and sardonic wit intact, on the new release CAKE shows off a newfound confidence born of a freedom to experiment "It really was a breath of fresh air, a luxury of being in a room with everybody with nobody on the clock" says guitarist Xan McCurdy.
Now in the midst of rehearsals and preparations, frontman John McCrea recently found time to join Buck Owens, for a special birthday celebration and performance, prompting the country legend to gush "appearing with John McCrea and CAKE is the most refreshing experience I've encountered in many a day. I'm looking forward to our next get together with great anticipation."
Founded in 1992 and reaching worldwide attention on the strength of the platinum albums 'Fashion Nugget' and 'Prolonging The Magic,' CAKE stands as one of the most enduring and iconoclastic artists in post-alternative rock. The band's most recent release, 2001's 'Comfort Eagle,' has become their highest charting release to date.
