Brooklyn’s funkiest band, Chin Chin, is back with their follow up to last year’s self-titled Def Jux debut. The trio of Jeremy Wilms, Wilder Zoby and Torbitt Schwartz (that adds anywhere from 3 to 10 more musicians to their live show) also plays as the inimitable El-P’s backing band when they’re not doing their own thing; their own thing being a groovy breed of hip-shaking dance music that owes as much to funk and r&b as it does to disco. As they say on their Myspace page, “Most of the time we make music to make you dance and bug out. Occasionally we make music to make you to chill and relax and bug out.”

The Flashing, The Fancing hits stores next week, and to celebrate its release the band has been recording a hilarious series of viral videos over the past month in which the guys star as mad scientists (or maybe aliens, we never quite can tell), determined to save Brooklyn from a rampant outbreak of ennui. Directed by Damien Neva, the four episodes will soon be combined into the final video for track “GG and the Boys.”

    Chin Chin press quotes
“...Outkast meets the Dap-Kings” – Black Book

“... a party in it's own right (Chin Chin) is a hairy, funky dance band, that sprawls like a Wookie passed out on your couch. A must see!” – Chicago Reader

“...Prince on speed. The live show is outstanding” - Herald Times

“For their full-length debut following a series of singles and EPs, New York dance trio Chin Chin exceed all expectations, crafting a note-perfect fusion of funk, soul, hip-hop, electronica, and substantial pop hooks, overlaid with a quirky sense of humor and an all-inclusive sensibility that finds the group open to even the most unexpected influences. Comparisons to Gnarls Barkley are entirely valid -- keyboardist and lead singer Wilder Zoby even sounds a little like Cee-Lo Green at times, especially on the falsetto-led, horn-spiked funk groove "You Can't Hold Her.’” – AllMusic

“Time and time again I've watched Chin Chin change a room full of bona fide squares into a frolicking orgy of psychedelic disco warriors chanting, ‘It is much better when we do it together.’ Their groove is undeniable. When NYC finally gets over its indie rock fetish, Chin Chin will be there to aide in the transition from shoe gazing to ass shaking.” - Jaleel Bunton - TV on The Radio
