Musician. Songwriter. Actress. Activist. Celebrity. Provocateur. There are few artists who fit into all of the above categories, performers whose life and work are impossible to pigeonhole. There is only one Courtney Love. 'AMERICA'S SWEETHEART' is Love 'THROUGH THIS' and 1998's Grammy Award-nominated 'CELEBRITY SKIN.' The album is currently set for release on February 10, 2004 right on time for Valentine's Day.

    Courtney Love

The most exhilarating record of her career, 'AMERICA'S SWEETHEART' is pure, unadulterated Courtney raw and relentless, smart and brassy, candid and uncompromising. Penned by Courtney, as well as in partnership with Linda Perry (Pink, Christina Aguilera), songs like the ultramega 'All The Drugs In The World' or the very personal 'Uncool,' co-written by Love and the legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin, are full-blown expressions of the songwriter?s singular worldview. The album?s volatile first single, 'Mono,' is a defiant statement of purpose, Love's battle cry to the so-called New Rock Revolution 'Is this the part in the book that you wrote where I gotta come save the day'/Did you miss me?'

Among the record's many other unforgettable moments is the tender 'Hold On To Me.' The track produced by Virgin Chairman & CEO and Grammy-winner Matt Serletic is a major musical departure for Courtney and a career highlight. The emotional centerpiece of 'AMERICA'S SWEETHEART' may well be the epic 'Sunset Strip.' The evocative song sees Courtney offering an expert dissection of El Lay dreams of fast times and short lives, noting that 'Look at me for the very last time/see if you find the life in my eyes/I won't fade, no way, not from sorrow.'

'AMERICA'S SWEETHEART' was produced by a trio of today?s best studio collaborators: Josh Abraham (Staind), Matt Serletic (matchbox twenty, Santana, Aerosmith), and Love?s longtime associate James Barber (Ryan Adams). The album sees Love's vocals and guitars backed by a stellar lineup of musicians, including guitarists Wayne Kramer (MC5), Scott McCloud (Girls Against Boys), Jerry Best (Dio), drummer Samantha Maloney (Hole, Motley Crue) and Kim Deal (Pixies, Breeders)

Love plans to put together an all-new, all-female band. The group anchored by Maloney will include a guitarist and bassist discovered via a full-page ad in The Village Voice calling for musicians who 'look like a Goddess. We like Emily the Strange, Lolita Goth, Patty Schemel's drumming, Nuggets, and Performance the movie.'

In addition to her many music-related activities including impassioned involvement in a variety of artists' rights-related issues Courtney is also continuing to pursue her love of acting. Love made her cinematic debut with a small role in Alex Cox's 1986 classic, Sid and Nancy, followed by widely praised appearances in a number of independent films, including 1996's Basquait and Feeling Minnesota. Her much-celebrated turn as the tragic Althea Flynt in the 1996 film, The People Vs. Larry Flynt, was a career breakthrough, earning her a Golden Globe nomination, along with 'Best Supporting Actress' awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and the Boston Society of Film Critics, 'Most Promising Actress' from Chicago Film Critics Association, and 'Best Supporting Actress' runner-up from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

Courtney furthered her calling as an actress with acclaimed performances in such films as 1999?s 200 Cigarettes, 1999's Man On The Moon (with reunited her with Larry Flynt director Milos Forman), 2000's Beat, 2001's Julie Johnson, and 2002?s Trapped. Love also appeared as a youth in several productions at the prestigious Ashland, Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Love's interest in the arts extends to the graphic from the art on her album to the Japanese graphic novel she 'stars' in. The cover and much of the art inside 'AMERICA'S SWEETHEART' was drawn by Olivia, (www.eOlivia.com) the world?s premiere pin-up artist. Inheriting the mantle left by Vargas, Olivia has had one-women shows of her art not only throughout the United States but also Japan.

Courtney herself has a strong connection with Japan. She is the subject of a series of Japanese comic books, called manga. Drawn by Japan?s most successful manga artist, Ai Yazawa, and co-written by Love and DJ Milky, Courtney is portrayed as 'Princess Ai.' "Princess Ai" is the story of a smart and talented, yet controversial young woman who utilizes the public stage not only for self-expression but also to hide from her assailants. She is the princess of a mysterious, unknown land, who has escaped to our world and is now taking refuge in the bustling nightclubs of Kabushiki-cho.

In the meantime, Courtney Love has crafted what is unquestionably the definitive album of her already-remarkable body of work. As startling as it is irresistible, 'AMERICA'S SWEETHEART' makes it plain why the world is in love with Love.
