Following the disbanding of their former project Jet By Day, David Matysiak and Mason Brown decided to hit the road and stop in different cities to record collaborations with musician friends. The project encountered inevitable detours and took years to come to fruition, but Gentleman On The Rocks proves well worth the endeavor. Finally completed in Omaha, Nebraska, Coyote Bones' debut LP is a startling document that highlights the diverse backgrounds of its contributors without straying from the solid center of it founding duo. The myriad of different sounds evoke everything from hushed Elliot Smith combined with the pop of Buffalo Tom to the synths of The Psychedelic Furs. Gentleman features contributions from members of Azure Ray and Tilly & The Wall, and was partially recorded in the basement of Joel Peterson (The Faint).

    Biography
Some of the best ideas are born at 3am. One of which was conceived on a hot August night in 2004. David Matysiak and Mason Brown were discussing the future of their rock band Jet by Day, which started in 1997, and the chance they may never tour again. They missed the road. They missed their friends. They missed writing music, but wanted to try something different.

Many road trips start out with a mix tape in the cassette player. This trip would be based on making such a compilation, city by city, with musicians and friends they loved and respected, all along the way. Thus, Coyote Bones was born. The trip began in Athens, GA., the town where both Matysiak and Brown went to college. They recorded the first three songs (39 Forever, Lightweights Drinking, Grand Eclipse) with Andy Lemaster at Chase Park Transduc tions, and then set out on the road.

After a few stops and with limited funds the guys headed west to Omaha where they had some close friends. They finished three more songs in the basemet of an art museum. Matysiak then moved to Omaha; Brown flew back to Atlanta, and for the last year, the two have been crafting a record that with the help of the internet and basement studios in various cities in America has bloomed into quite a collection of music. Joel Peterson, of The Faint, recorded some of the tracks at his house in Omaha and David lived in the house of Jamie and Derek of Tilly and the Wall and finished the record while they were on tour.

The album is entitled Gentleman On The Rocks and will be released May 29 on CoCo Art out of Omaha, NE. (detailed tracklisting below) Look for many tours and late night revelations in the near future! So until Coyote Bones hits your town, pass the songs on, tell your friends, or hit the road and make your own mixtape one town at a time.
