The powerful trio which SPIN magazine hailed as a “stunningly direct blues/hard rock/punk hybrid” (August 2009) are supporting the release of their new CD NEVER TOO LOUD, released September 8 via Bad Taste Records/Caroline. For the new album, the group--DANKO JONES (lead vocals/guitars), JOHN CALABRESE (bass), DAN CORNELIUS (drums)--teamed with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Coheed & Cambria, Stone Sour, Velvet Revolver).
DANKO JONES have been invited to perform the NHL post-game concert series for the Tampa Bay Lightning November 25 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The show takes place in the outdoor plaza following the game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The group’s buzzed-about first single “Code of the Road” is featured on the Saw VI soundtrack (Trustkill Records). The song (about the endless ups and downs of touring) also can be heard in EA’s new racing game Need for Speed: Nitro (available for Wii and Nintendo DS) as well as in commercials for the game in the U.K., France Austria and Switzerland. The video for “Code of the Road”-- featuring comedian Jim Florentine (“Crank Yankers,” “That Metal Show”) as the bus driver--is currently being shown daily in over 350 Harley-Davidson locations across the U.S. and at over 1000 sports clubs nationwide through ClubCom.
DANKO JONES will also appear in the forthcoming film Saxon Heavy Metal Thunder: The Movie, a documentary about British heavy metallers Saxon. Danko Jones biography
Over the last four years, the blood-sweating, sleep-defying Canadian power trio DANKO JONES has become one of the biggest rock bands in Europe, where they’ve toured virtually nonstop and cracked the charts in several countries. After three highly successful European tours- this time, as hand-picked support to the legendary Mötorhead--the band returning home to reintroduce itself to American audiences. There, DANKO JONES will attempt to re-prove the same scientific tenet of rock n’ roll that has earned the group extensive international acclaim: that it’s Never Too Loud.
Produced by the Grammy Award-winning Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Stone Sour, Rush), NEVER TOO LOUD sees DANKO JONES turn the knobs up to 11 as usual. Perhaps more importantly, the album also sees the group further accentuate its visceral, raucous garage rock -- described by Maxim as “like AC/DC sniffing glue with Motley Crue” -- with even more of the melodic sensibilities that made past hits like “Lovercall” and “First Date” (both of which cracked Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Top 40 in recent years) so irresistible. It’s the best work yet of the rare rock band that makes you want to raise your fist, bang your head, sing along and dance your ass off--sometimes all at the same time.
After first making a splash in America in 2005 with We Sweat Blood (featuring the active rock hits “Lovercall” and “Forget My Name”), DANKO JONES returned for an encore in 2006 with Sleep Is The Enemy. While the album earned the band another hit American radio single in the playful “First Date,” the European response to Sleep... was overwhelming. In fact, overseas demand for DANKO JONES was so strong that, aside from a handful of performances along the East Coast (including radio-sponsored concerts in Hartford and Philadelphia and one of the final shows at New York City’s legendary CBGB’s), the band s pent the majority of 2006 touring throughout Europe.
Their legwork paid off. Upon the European release of NEVER TOO LOUD late last year, the album hit the charts in seven different countries, including a Top 40 showing in Germany and a Top 10 debut in Sweden. A sold-out spring European headlining tour was followed by a summer spent playing some of the continent’s biggest music festivals, during which time the band-- namesake DANKO JONES (vocals/guitars), bassist John “J.C.” CALABRESE and new drummer DAN CORNELIUS--temporarily changed its home base from Toronto to Amsterdam. After the Mötorhead tour, the band plans to tour Europe one final time on this album cycle, but not before they set the stage for a triumphant return to the country whose radio airwaves couldn’t get enough of their previous two records: America.
We’ll be glad they did, for in the words of Spin magazine, DANKO JONES are “the world’s most entertaining hard rockers” -- and NEVER TOO LOUD is exhibit A. From the adrenalized mission statement “Code of the Road,” to the infectious melodies of “City Streets” and “Ravenous,” to the hormone-fueled come-on “Let’s Get Undressed,” to the Bon Scott-channeling title track, the album encompasses everything that’s fun and memorable about hard rock, past and present. There’s even an uncharacteristic love song, “Take Me Home” (a hit single throughout Europe)-- but tellingly, it’s not a wimpy ballad about relationships, but instead a love letter to Danko’s record collection.
In other words, it’s all about the power of rock n’ roll--and it never rocks harder than when it’s Never Too Loud.
