Following on the successful heels of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, Jack White has now joined forces with Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs) and Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) to form a rock band called The Dead Weather.
“I feel it, you feel it – we’re all struggling with the trouble that this industry is in right now,” said Jack White. “And it’s not about sales; it’s about beauty and romance and a relationship to art that’s turning invisible, and it’s affecting people’s perception of music. It’s affecting whether they think of it as a viable art, because it’s so disposable. It’s not about being modern or retro or a Luddite or being hopeful or pessimistic about the future; it’s about clinging on to what makes sense of our lives, and what gives our lives value, and what gives us a commonality and a feeling of belonging.”
After debuting the Dead Weather only two months ago, Jack White has announced his new band are hitting the road. As promised, the White Stripe's new project with the Kills' Alison Mosshart will be trekking across North America this summer, making several stops in the U.S. and some here in Canada as well.
The Dead Weather are a band comprised of Jack White (The White Stripes/Raconteurs), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs/Greenhornes).
"We started off as just one day at the end of the Raconteurs and Kills tour that we had to work on something together, says White. The three of us were going to do a 7-inch [record], but Dean was staying at my house too, and he sort of wandered in while we were recording and we ended up writing songs together and that turned into an album, turned into a band".
The dates come as the Dead Weather prepare to release their upcoming debut full-length, Horehound, on July 14th via White's Third Man label, and the group's new single, Trust Me Like Your Mother, impacts Alternative on June 9th.
Also Jack is again pairing up with Meg for another White Stripes album, which is due for release sometime next year. "We recorded a couple new songs at the studio," says White.
