Diskjokke to release En Fin Tid
Diskjokke delivers another hypnotic album of futuristic and melodic, epic prog disco with En Fin Tid, out June 22nd on Smalltown Supersound. Recorded and self-produced in Disjokke’s new studio, the album draws inspiration from Holger Czukay’s mid 80s period, Brian Eno, Arthur Russell, Alan Parsons Project, Tangerine Dream, Arthur Lyman and Craig Leon. The album title, which means a “happy time” in Norwegian, refers to the period in which the album was written and recorded, during which he became a father and started focusing on music full time.

Since the release of his debut album, Staying In, Diskjokke has made quite a name for himself with his distinctive, dubby blend of house, italo and disco remixes. In addition to his compilation Dislocated, featuring remixes for Lykke Li, Bloc Party, Foals, Metronomy and more, Diskjokke has released remixes for Beck and Charlotte Gainsbourg and The xx, amongst others, and he is currently working on a remix for Alan Parsons.
The 28-year old Diskjokke (aka Joachim Dyrdahl) was raised in Svelvik, a small town southwest of Oslo with 5,000 inhabitants, but presently lives in Oslo. He’s a classically trained violinist, which he has played since he was five years old. Joachim became interested in electronic music at the age of 15 when he discovered Norwegian DJ legend Olle Abstract's radio show, and he’s been hooked ever since. Joachim has studied mathematics for eight years, but his studies have been put on hold as he now focuses on music full time. Together with friends Prins Thomas, Todd Terje and Lindstrøm, Diskjokke is one of the mainstays in Oslo’s pulsing disco scene. His first break came, in part, thanks to Prins Thomas, who released three tracks on his Full Pupp label. At the same time M.A.N.D.Y, DJ T, and the Get Physical gang in Germany released five other tracks and two 12"s on their label Kindish.
“Diskjokke – ‘Staying In’: Norwegian retro-disco auteur Joachim Dyrdahl dots this track’s squiggly dubscape with sly quirks galore – digital congas, horn bursts, shakers, galloping horses, and a fairy-tale keyboard flourish.” – SPIN
“[Disjokke’s] spacey electro-disco is technically impressive and effortlessly appealing. It's rife with surgically straight percussion, oil-slick synths, bouncy bass, and eerie almost-vocal melodies-- warm sounds with plenty of frigid antimatter, courtesy of judicious effects and pan envelopes, seething between them.” – Brian Howe, Pitchfork
“Diskjokke belts out a perfectly balanced mix of classical-influenced melodies and dance floor prowess on Staying In.” – Kendah El-Ali, FILTER
“Norway’s Diskjokke’s debut full-length features the most fun aspects of his playful, electroid digi-disco. Sticking to this sound without falling into repetitiveness, ‘Cold Out’ rides on twisted tribal beats, while ‘The Dinner That Never Happened’ hosts large dance floor booming washes and the rubberized tones of ‘Interpolation’ give it an unrelenting bounce.” – Lily Moayeri, Under The Radar
