With four new songs recorded, a new EP in the works and new fall tour dates, things are continuing to build excitingly for DRIVE A. The Los Angeles-based band--who has been earning the respect of dedicated rock fans everywhere with their blend of rock and punk, with an indie edge--is fronted by 16-year-old lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Bruno Mascolo, who produced four new tracks.
Meanwhile, DRIVE A--Bruno Mascolo (vocals, lead guitar), Jason Nott (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ashton Moio (bass) and Terry Stirling, Jr. (drums)--has been in the studio working on new material that includes two tracks produced by heavyweight drummer Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver, Guns N’ Roses, The Cult): “Are You Blind” and “Coming For You.”
Due in early 2009, the EP will be titled SMILING WITH HATE, which showcases the outstanding guitar work of Bruno Mascolo, who “is on his way to becoming your kid’s next guitar hero (Music Connection, 4/14/08).”
“The new songs are influenced by the new music I have been listening to,” says Bruno. “I am trying to grow as a writer and broaden my horizons musically.” He adds: “The atmosphere in the studio was great. I came up with the ideas for the songs and let each band member expand on the songs and make them their own. ‘Smiling With Hate’ is a song that says it all in the title.”
DRIVE A--who’ve amassed praise from both critics and legendary rockers alike (Tommy Lee, Don Henley, Dave Navarro)--is also gearing up for a handful of fall tour dates. The band’s concert highlights in 2008 have included an appearance at the massive Rock On the Range festival in Columbus, OH, performing alongside artists like Stone Temple Pilots; an opening slot for supergroup Camp Freddy at The Roxy in May; and a number of shows at SXSW, where they were included in Daily Variety’s festival round-up. They also had a hugely successful run as the resident band in April at the Key Club’s Ruby Tuesday weekly event in Los Angeles.
