Tempe, AZ hardcore act Eyes Set to Kill are back with a new disc. The band, who is signed with California-based BreakSilence recordings, will release their sophomore effort "The World Outside" on June 2nd through Suburban Noize Records. Eyes Set To Kill lineup includes lead singer and lead guitarist Alexia Rodriguez, her younger sister and bassist Anissa Rodriguez, guitarist Greg Kerwin, drummer Caleb Clifton, and synth keyboardist/screamer Brandon Anderson .
The band booked their earliest gigs through MySpace. They contacted venues, promoters and other bands along the way. "I can't believe that we did that," said Anissa, whose band has since performed on the Vans Warped Tour and played shows with (hed) p.e., Papa Roach, Kittie and Otep, among others. "It was really hard, but it worked out. And we would get our guarantees and everything like that. So MySpace does everything."
After releasing an early EP and DVD that both sold relatively well, Eyes Set To Kill inked a record deal with BreakSilence Recordings, a subsidiary of Suburban Noize Records . Their debut for the label, 2008's "Reach" LP, found the band landing at No. 29 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and making an impact on the Billboard Independent Music chart as well.
Anissa said she took on a bigger songwriting role for the band's forthcoming "The World Outside" LP, however. "First of all, I've gotten so much better since 'Reach' came out," Anissa said. "Personally, I didn't think I was that good of a bass player when that came out and Alexia had to help me on a lot of the bass parts and stuff. But on the new CD, I wrote all my parts and everything. So it's like all me writing my own parts. I've gotten so much better over the years and stuff, from practice and everything like that."
The rest of the band also got involved in the writing process, Alexia explained. "A lot of the songs on 'Reach,' I already wrote, I think like four of them," Alexia said. "So this one, we just started with a clean slate and I collaborated more instead of being selfish and being like, 'I'm gonna write this song!' So it worked out really good because I think a lot of the songs are way better than the songs on 'Reach' because they're a little bit messy to me.
The band is called Eyes Set to Kill because it was derived from a line out of Alexia's poem in High School. The poem was about a criminal whose eyes were set to kill, and how determined he was to reach his goal. The phrase "when eyes set to kill" means to be really determined and strive for what you believe in, and not giving up on the dream for anything or anyone.
The first single "The World Outside" impacts Alternativeon June 16th.

Hot off the heels of a completely sold-out out tour alongside Drop Dead Gorgeous, Eyes Set to Kill have announced the dates for their upcoming tour with Gwen Stacy, Motionless In White and Belle Epoque. The tour is slated to kick off April 29th in Terre Haute, IN and run throughout the month of May, with more dates to be announced shortly.
"The new album is done and sounds amazing," says Eyes Set to Kill's Brandon Anderson. "We can't wait for everyone to hear the new material on this upcoming tour with Gwen Stacy, so make sure to come check it out and let us know what you think. It's time to hit some new places, play some new songs, rock hard and party harder."
Eyes Set to Kill has also have announced a June 2nd, 2009 release through California based BreakSilence Recordings for the group’s upcoming sophomore effort “The World Outside”. Written and recorded by the band in Los Angeles, CA with producer Dave Aguilera (ex-Otep, Bleed the Dream) and mixed by Thom Flowers (The Ataris), the album showcases the band’s evolution from their screamo beginnings into powerful songwriters that resonate raw emotion.
“Our debut album was great, but I feel like we got signed so quickly that we didn't have time to really write everything that I wanted. We were fresh out of high school and on the road playing shows every day and then we jumped straight from the road into the studio. There was no time for the songs to breathe or evolve,” says Alexia Rodriguez .“With this record I just put all the raw emotions I've kept to myself and let them bleed out into the music.”
