Lollipop, Lollipop,... No, don't think about Lil Wayne but about Framing Hanley. The band have just re-released their album "The Moment" as a deluxe version. MusicRemedy had the opportunity to talk with Brandon, Nixon, Chris, Luke about their album, Lollipop, attention and a lot more...
Jermy Leeuwis/MusicRemedy asks a question [Q 1]: For people who may not have heard some music from you yet... what can someone who's never heard of you expect from your music?
Framing Hanley answers [A 1]: Nixon - Passion. I remember specifically what was on my mind or going on in our lives. Every song has some type of personal meaning to us as a band. However, lyrically I try to maintain a balance where a listener can relate to the song according to what is going on in their life.

Framing Hanley interview - continued
[Q 2]: Your upcoming album is your first album (re-)release. Tell us about it.
[A 2]: Brandon - "Lollipop" introduced a lot of new people to our band. Being newer fans, they didn't have the record yet, so we felt that doing a re-release of the record for those people was appropriate and it also gave us an opportunity to offer our cover of "Lollipop" and the video on a record.
[Q 3]: Which song on the album took the longest to complete? Why?
[A 3]: Nixon - "Count Me In." Lyrically, there was a whole different version of this song at first. But at the time I had something going on in my life that really had me pissed, and that song was just the perfect avenue to really get out a lot of that energy that I was harnessing. Now when I listen to that song I think to myself "hell yea, glad I got that out."
[Q 4]: In what way has your personal live affected your music? And what about the other way around?
[A 4]: Nixon - It directly affected the lyrics like I said. The album as a whole was a bunch of things in our lives that we pretty much just put to music.
[Q 5]: How do you feel about the fact that your "Lollipop" cover gave you your breakthrough instead of an 'original' yourselves written song?
[A 5]: Chris - Our music speaks for itself. If this was a way that people found out about our band, they hear our original music and can see that this ain't our first rodeo. We are passionate about our music.
[Q 6]: In what way helped Brett Hestla to harness your energy and produce those two songs?
[A 6]: Nixon - Brett is amazing. We were very fortunate to meet him, and even more fortunate to call that guy one of our best friends.
Firstly, he showed us our potential as song-writers. We first recorded "Hear Me Now" and "Wave Goodbye" with him and after that experience it really opened our eyes as to what we could really do. We ended up writing the other 9 songs on the record over the course of 3 weeks.
[Q 7]: Guns N Roses have returned with a new album. To what extent can you compare yourself to them? If I had to choose between your album and theirs, which one would you advise and why?
[A 7]: Nixon - Personally, I grew up with my father being a country musician in Nashville, TN. The way I was really introduced to the whole rock genre was by my uncle leaving "Appetite For Destruction" over at our house as a kid. So GNR has always been my favorite band. So you should save up your money and pick up both their new record AND ours.
Luke - Get the new Metallica record over Guns N Roses' new one.
Chris - Yea, what Luke said.
Nixon - I hate both of you.
[Q 8]: Nowadays everybody tells you they are unique. In a way that is always the case and at the same time it is not. To what extent are you unique and at the same time same as the others?
[A 8]: Ryan - Our music is what makes us unique...but we put our pants on one leg at a time still, so that makes us the same as the others.
[Q 9]: How hard is it to capture the attention of the music industry?
[A 9]: Nixon - We are very fortunate to be where we are. We are 5 fans of music that got lucky and now have an opportunity to do what we love...but its all because of the fans. That's what keeps us down to earth: the fact that we know where we came from and how we got here. We're not different than that kid sitting in his mom and dad's basement right now rocking out to "Everlong" by Foo Fighters.
[Q 10]: What would you say is harder, capturing the attention of the music industry or the listener/consumer [a possible fan]?
[A 10]: Luke - Personally, I think its harder capturing the industry's attention. There are a lot of bands that we're all fans of from our hometown in Nashville that haven't had the right person hear their band yet.
[Q 11]: Any instruments you would like to learn to play on?
[A 11]: Nixon - cello
[Q 12]: What are your Christmas plans? Any Christmas wishes?
[A 12]: Ryan - I think this year we're just all really happy to be able to spend the holidays with our loved ones and family. We love being out on the road, but holidays aren't the same without your family and the people you really care about and your family.
[Q 13]: Do you think success and credibility are mutually exclusive?
[A 13]: Chris - I don't think so. I think any person successful or not has to prove their own credibility.
[Q 14]: What artists are you listening to at the moment?
[A 14]: Brandon - I'm really into the new Thrice records that came out this year. We've all been listening to that a lot on the road traveling city to city.
Nixon - Yea, and Lydia's "Illuminate" is another of my favorite records this year..amazing songwriting. Safetysuit is another band from our hometown of Nashville that broke onto the scene this year. Their debut record is pretty awesome...they have some of my favorite harmonies I've ever heard.
[Q 15]: Are you living the American dream? Is it anything you hoped for?
[A 15]: Chris - Just the fact that we're living and able to play our music that we write for people across the country right now makes this everything we could ever dream of.
[Q 16]: How does the weak US economy affect your daily life? How many houses are for your sale in your street?
[A 16]: Nixon - I live in apartments, so no houses for sale...but the economy has really affected the amount of people that are able to go out to concerts, so we see the effects there. I think we're in for a lot of good change soon though...everyone.
[Q 17]: Recently, what is a typical day like for you?
[A 17]: Nixon - I usually just sleep all day. Wake up a few hours before we go onstage, eat, warm up...go on stage. Hang out with people after the show, and go sleep some more.
Chris - Lazy lead singers.
[Q 18]: Final words?
Luke - Just be sure to check us out on myspace and framinghanley.com.
Nixon - and if we're near you, come out to a show and hang out.
Framing Hanley biography
Framing Hanley is a five piece rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Nixon, Chris, Brandon, Tim, and Luke came together to form a band that was eventually named Framing Hanley. The name, Framing Hanley, is a tribute to a friend, Ashley Hanley, who died tragically in a car accident. With their amazing musical abilities and live shows the band quickly gained a large following in Nashville.
In November of 2006 the band was fortunate to hook up with producer Brett Hestla (Dark New Day), who helped harness their energy into two songs. These two songs were enough to capture the attention of Jeff Hanson (Creed, Sevendust, Shinedown, Paramore) and his record label Silent Majority Group which ultimately led to the release of The Moment their 2007 debut LP. The Moment is smooth, easy on the ears and the songs have similar structure, tempo, and melody.
"We are still what the industry calls a "baby band." But every night we get out there and leave it all on-stage. I don't care if there is one person in the crowd who knows who we are, 300 people who know who we are, or if there is no one who knows who we are, we still get out there every night. When we play those songs, we play them with the same passion that we had when we wrote them. We have had a good response," says Nixon.
"Chris and Luke, our drummer and bass player, they were in a band together and all went to high school together. They were looking for a lead singer and posted an ad on a little bulletin board at the community college we were going to. I answered it and here we are now. After our two songs, Hear Me Now and Wave Goodbye, Tim joined the band and we wrote we wrote the cd in less than a month. It was like the missing ingredient."
"Personally for me, the whole reason I am in rock n' Roll is Guns N' Roses. I remember hearing Appetite for Destruction for the first time. That's what did it for me. I am like the only person out there who would cry if he met Axl Rose. Just because, growing up in the middle of nowhere in the country, that was the first rock band that I was introduced to. But I would say collectively we are huge fans of Deftones, 30 Seconds to Mars, Incubus, Thrice."
Their cover of Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" debuted #40 on the Alternative Mediabase chart before the official October 28th impact date.
