Fall From Grace biography
The saying “that which does not kill you, makes you stronger” has never had more meaning than for the four members of the Seattle-based FALL FROM GRACE. Each has faced dark times in their personal lives, but have been able to come together to spin their stories into messages of hope and happiness to all those who hear it. And now they are bringing their music to the masses as they get ready to embark on a nationwide tour alongside Alesana, Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Fear Before and I Set My Friends on Fire in support of their latest record, SIFTING THROUGH THE WRECKAGE (Bunk Rock Music/Fontana).
Kicking off March 6 in New York City at the Blender Theater at Gramercy, the two-month long trek will make its way along the southeast before hitting Texas. Among the numerous stops in the Lone Star state are appearances at the Never Say Never Festival in Mission, alongside Anberlin, Forever the Sickest Kids, The Maine and others, as well as at SXSW in Austin at Headhunters. Stops in San Antonio, Dallas, Albuquerque and Tempe follow before seven shows throughout California, including March 28 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles and April 4 at The Boardwalk in Orangevale. Hitting up the Northwest, at venues like the hometown El Corazon on April 8, the tour will then make its way back east tearing up Madison, WI, Chicago, IL, Cleveland, OH and various cities in the Midwest before ending April 29 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC.
The band’s third full length album SIFTING THROUGH THE WRECKAGE, produced by Terry Date (Pantera, Deftones) and Greg Nori (Sum 41, Ludacris) and featuring the single “Burned,” was released in November 2008 as their debut on Bunk Rock Music/Fontana. FALL FROM GRACE outperformed over 7,000 bands nationwide during the Fuse TV Music Battle of the Bands to win a $1 million record contract with Bunk Rock Entertainment. They successfully competed against 16 other bands during a weekly reality TV series on Fuse, featuring celebrity judges Johnny Rotten, Bif Naked and Billy Duffy, to win the viewers votes and prove their hard rock spirit and endurance would reign supreme.
Each of the four members--Tryg Littlefield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Brian Olson (lead guitar, vocals), Ken Olson (bass, vocals), Kenny Bates (drums, vocals)—has remained victorious against personal battles making the band their career and life focus. Ken Olson was homeless and living out of his car. Bates, forced to get inoculations for small pox and anthrax when he signed up to serve in the U.S. military and prepare for Iraq, was placed in a VA hospital in critical condition when the vaccines gave him epilepsy from which he still suffers seizures. Littlefield emancipated himself from his biological mother at 12 due to mental and physical abuse and moved in with his father and stepmother. And as for Brian Olson, a fatal car accident, caused by a drunk driver, almost killed him - literally. Brian was pronounced dead on the scene, but after 45 minutes of flat-lining, he miraculously awoke and after three weeks in ICU and recovery did not become paralyzed or suffer brain damage.
It seems that what hasn’t killed them has definitely made their music stronger. Each song that is written is a story of struggle and triumph filled with infectious melodies, brutal breakdowns, and crowd clap choruses. Having already appeared on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, the band continues to look up and bring their gritty punk-rock sound to the masses. Faced with all these challenges, Fall From Grace now has one goal: to rock your face off!
