The land that lent the infamous Geto Boys the inspiration behind their syrupy southern funk and later made Geto Boys rapper; Scarface a Hip Hop icon is also the birthplace of the newest contender for a place in Hip Hop royalty. Today, you won’t find Fame Rilla in the sweltering heat of his birthplace Houston Texas, yet his debut single ‘I mean I mean’ is growing superstardom in overseas markets (France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany) and is making a splash in the place he now calls home: Seattle. Not familiar with Fame Rilla? One good listen to I mean I mean will tell you all you need to know and then some. With the help from label mate and up and coming MC/producer Q Dot, the two have worked to create a sound that is definitely south, refreshingly west but uniquely Fame. His music is a high energy, dance floor igniting, trunk rattlin’, synth heavy, bass pounding pot of melodic gumbo. His stories are just as entertaining to listen to as the beats and Fame’s punch lines are clever and come in flurries. Fame is also ultra charismatic. Listening to his flow you can hear the confidence roll off each head nodding syllable. With the debut album Walk of Fame in tow, listeners shouldn’t be surprised to find that Fame Rilla is the real deal.
