Fireworks 'All I Have To Offer is My Own Confusion' album

Starting April 14 in Cincinnati, FIREWORKS--Brett Jones (guitars), Chris Mojan (guitars), David Mackinder (vocals), Kyle O'Neil (bass), Tymm Rengers (drums)—will hit the road to promote their debut album, ALL I HAVE TO OFFER IS MY OWN CONFUSION, which was released March 24 on Triple Crown Records.

It’ll be quite an ambitious tour for the Detroit band. With 33 shows scheduled, they only have two days off. How will they manage it? “Witchcraft,” says bassist Kyle O’Neil.

Fireworks biography
A band as colorful and explosive as their name implies, Fireworks is a group of individuals that create a sound with enough pop quality to keep your little sister’s attention and with enough edge to rid them of the "guilty pleasure" status. Hailing from stereotypically suburban metro Detroit, Fireworks is comprised of five electric personalities with endless influences. Together they create a unique blend of infectious, well-written punk with an undeniable sense of melody.

Fireworks started as a side project for a group of five friends who played in other bands, but something about their chemistry and striking ability to craft a catchy tune turned Fireworks into a full-time gig. And thankfully so, because now the Detroit fivesome has readied their debut album, ALL I HAVE TO OFFER IS MY OWN CONFUSION, and is set to show the world what they’re made of.

Their debut EP, WE ARE EVERYWHERE, was originally released on Run For Cover Records. It was a musical breath of fresh air which consists of six energetic anthems that serve as a perfect combination of catchy pop punk styling, laden with feel good “sing alongs” and infectious hooks. The band of misfits had their work cut out for them as they began touring relentlessly and started sharing the stage with a variety of different national touring and local bands. From The Smoking Popes to Damnation AD, Fireworks has never excluded playing with any particular genre. Being open-minded and encouraging the same in their live show has led to them seeing both coasts and everything in between with an endless lists of your favorite bands.

After two years of broken strings, sticks, and pockets, Fireworks has finally taken the next step and signed to Triple Crown Records. After collecting ideas and song parts for nearly a year, they sat down to write the majority of the songs that appear on ALL I HAVE TO OFFER IS MY OWN CONFUSION in the summer of 2008. The goal? To pen sincere, catchy songs that projected the band’s enormous energy and expand beyond WE ARE EVERYWHERE.

“We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to do,” bassist Kyle O’Neil says. “We wanted to capture our live energy on the record more. Something to show how we’ve grown as a band, but not stray away from what we set out to be.”

The band went west to Orange, CA to record their debut full length and they chose New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert as producer. There, Gilbert helped Fireworks turn their songs into eleven raucous, lively tracks that encompass a broad range of styles. “Detroit,” a fast-paced, punk rock number about growing up, and “Show Me Your Vanishing Act One More Time,” a rollicking, punchy song, offset the slower, more pensive tones of “2923 Monroe St.” and “Come Around.” In fact, the entire album is a refreshing collection of punk-tinged, pop-inspired rock songs that surge with the band’s passion for making music and are aided by Gilbert’s ear for a good melody.
“Chad brought a lot of great ideas to the table and really pushed the best out of us,” O’Neil says. “I’m really happy with it. I couldn’t ask for a better record.”

Fireworks has spent the better part of three years on the road, touring with bands like Hit the Lights, Set Your Goals and H2O and garnering a solid, devoted fanbase since mid-2006. Their dynamic live performance, sincerity and ability to engage fans gets them a leg up as ALL I HAVE TO OFFER IS MY OWN CONFUSION hits the stores.

“We gained our own DIY following,” explains O’Neil. “I think those fans are pretty loyal and willing to stick with us. It’s so helpful to already have a fanbase when your debut album comes out. We touch a lot of on friendship and on growing up on this record. It’s about a lot of different things. We really have something honest to say. That’s what we’re trying to accomplish: write songs that our fans can identify with.”
