What’s behind a name? Phonte explains “De La Soul, Tribe, Public Enemy were like our big brothers in the game so now we are the little brothers of that movement...carrying on the tradition of good music."

Little Brother are natives of North Carolina but are the antithesis of what has come to be thought of as Southern Hip-Hop. With a soul drenched, jazzy sound defined by the phenomenal producer 9th Wonder who was a member of the band at it’s inception in 2002. With underground cult status gained through the 7 inch of the video game inspired “Atari 2600” and solidified by the release of their debut album “The Listening” in 2003. A brighter light was shone on the outfit once
Jay-Z tapped 9th Wonder for the beat to “Threat” on his incredible “Black Album”.

This saw Atlantic records come knocking but after the release of 2 albums “Getback” & “The Minstel Show” with them it was back to their underground roots with the official release of 2007’s “…And Justus For All” mixtape which shifted an incredible 10,000 copies in it’s first week despite no major radio play or a video to speak of. Their underground credentials were clearly still fully in tact and their
fanbase was growing with their development as purveyors of as distinct underground sound.

Despite 9th’s departure rappers Big Pooh and Phonte have continued with their signature sound throughout their 4 full length albums. This has seen them gain not only critical acclaim but an army of dedicated fans around the world many of whom will be out in force to see them in London tonight.
