Three years ago, Antoine and Lionel started to record their songs on their Dream Machine, an old 8 track-recorder. “We were friends and a bit bored” says Lionel, singer, composer and guitarist, “I wrote a song and made Antoine (singer) listen to it. Then he wrote a song back, and so on. We were almost challenging each other. Suddenly we had several tracks. It all started like that. We discovered that together, our songs had coherence between them.” A couple of months after this “challenge,” they called their own brothers and two other friends in order to form a band and play live.

Their songwriting and live show caught the attention of promoters, magazines and record labels and soon enough, the band was signed to 62 TV Records, home of M. Ward and Papas Fritas, among others. Spending the summer working on their debut album, the band began recording on a mobile multi-track recorder in various country houses throughout Belgium.

“We wanted to control and master everything and with someone outside the band to record us, it would have been harder. Not knowing how to react in these new circumstances, we stayed a “family” and recorded the album by ourselves. The album reflects our different moods. We sing in English, it’s our musical culture, Nirvana, The Pixies, Grandaddy,”

The young band had to make important choices as the album was close to being released. “Some of us had jobs or were studying at university. We kind of quit everything and moved to Brussels as we saw we could do something with this album.”

As soon as their debut full-length album, FROM HERE TO THERE, was released, the band received the attention they deserved. The album was in heavy rotation on Belgian radio stations and Rolling Stone France said, “They have an irreproachable classicism, eminently unique. A revelation, even a bit more.” In the meantime, the band started playing the best venues in Europe.

Since it’s release, the band has sold more than 55,000 copies of the record in Europe and has performed at the biggest European Festivals such as Werchter, Paleo, Benicassim and Les Eurockéennes. A highlight came when the band headlined the Verdur Theatre, playing in front of 9,600 fans.

FROM HERE TO THERE has been released in France, Spain, Italy and Japan in 2004 but will see it’s US release in February 2006 on China Shop Music.
