Hell On Wheels 'The Odd Church' album

When the Swedish combo Hell On Wheels appeared on the Vibration Festival in February 2005, neither the band nor the presenters from Danish indie-label Play/Rec knew that this would be the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. However, band and label quickly joined forces in mutual respect, as their chemistry and ideology turned out to be highly compatible.
Hell On Wheels went back to Stockholm and started working on their next album, but the parties stayed in touch and when the album was finished, Play/Rec immediately offered to release it.

Hence, it is with great pleasure that we are now able to announce that Hell On Wheels' new full-length The Odd Church will be released on May 15. The band is the third foreign addition to the Play/Rec label, the two first being Mount Eerie (US) and Greg MacPherson (CAN).
The Odd Church is the fourth album from Hell On Wheels and the band is more successful than ever in transferring their charming and enigmatic live antics to a recorded medium. The Odd Church hails the gospel of the crooked, twisted and strange combined with a remarkable sense of melody that seems exclusively Swedish.

In connection with the release, the band will Play at Club Play/Rec in Huset i Magstræde on May 13. This show will also give the Danish audience a chance to meet another recent addition to the Play/Rec family, Mr. Greg MacPherson. Furthermore, Hell On Wheels will appear at this year's Spot Festival. The band's live show is, as their 2001 appearance at the Roskilde Festival proved, one of their most important assets. The concert in question received a 6/6 rating in a rave review in the festival paper.

The band has played about 250 shows in Europe, USA and Japan. The late John Peel described Hell On Wheels as one of the highlights of the 2004 Eurosonic Festival and added that 'Hell On Wheels proves Sweden's status as a strong rock nation'. In the fall, the band will go on a long European tour. In this connection, Play/Rec and VME will release The Odd Church in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Benelux.
