Hello Tokyo is a female fronted, power-pop experience from Brooklyn, NY. Starting almost on a whim, Kat (vocals) and John (bass/guitar) wrote a handful of songs after finding a long forgotten 4-track recorder. Enjoying the chemistry, they decided to bring those songs to a live setting in their then-hometown of Washington, DC. Shortly after, Sam joined as the drummer, providing unique rhythms that couple energetic vocals and accessible musicality; they soon found themselves developing an excellent foundation of fans, press and relationships with local venues.
From the beginning, Hello Tokyo has steadily garnered continuous success. Hello Tokyo won the 2006 performance slot on the Ernie Ball Stage at the Vans Warped Tour. They have had music placed on MTV’s The Real World and Road Rules consecutively for the past 3 years. Their single “Radio” was chosen out of thousands as the theme song for the Animal Planet series Horse Power, in addition to including several other Hello Tokyo songs throughout the show. In 2007, Fashion Fights Poverty invited Hello Tokyo to be featured by in the NYC Edition fashion spread for the 2007 Fashion Fights Poverty Lookbook, an official FFP style resource for those interested in supporting community development through ethical fashion. Also in 2007, Greg Richling (Producer and bassist for the Wallflowers), approached the band to record in Hollywood. Hello Tokyo re-recorded “Radio” at Sunset Sound (Led Zeppelin, Prince, Doors, Maroon 5, Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley) resulting in a killer release of the lead single.
With sounds and influences from bands like Metric, Rilo Kiley, Fountains of Wayne and No Doubt, to Big Country, Patsy Klein, REM and U2, the band combines influences and sounds, developing their own unique style.
