Newest single, “American Trash,” released digitally on May 25, 2010, has been gaining traction at Modern Rock radio – it is currently the #1 most-requested song at Denver’s KTCL – and marks an exciting evolution in the band’s sound. With elements of their rock roots, and socially conscious lyrics ever-present, the band has infused more dance and electronic influences into their new songs, giving the band a newly electro-charged panache.
The origins of Innerpartysystem – Patrick Nissley (vocals), Jarred Piccone (drums), and Kris Barman (synth, guitar) – can be traced to 2002, when Jared and Patrick attended school together in Reading, PA. The duo started writing songs together, inspired by both their love of electronic music (The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails) and hardcore punk. Although the intensity of the band’s music has been unwavering, the group began to experiment with dance music and soon saw its style begin to morph, becoming more digitally based.
In 2006, Innerpartysystem’s music began infiltrating the blogosphere and soon the band was racking up hits on MySpace. Ready to tour, Piccone and Nissley recruited Kris Barman and Jesse Cronan (who left the band in 2010), both well versed in the world of synths, driving the band to experiment even more with samples. After releasing an EP entitled The Download EP in 2007, Innerpartysystem caught the attention of renowned producers including Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Jesus & Mary Chain, the Killers), Stuart Price (Madonna, New Order, Seal), Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Massive Attack, Bjork, Madonna), Joel Hamilton (Book of Knots, Sparklehorse, Blue Tip), and Mark Needham (The Killers, Pete Yorn), all of whom contributed to the band’s debut album, released in 2008 on Island Def Jam.
Since then, the band has toured non-stop, sharing the stage with everyone from Nine Inch Nails to 3OH!3. They’ve had sold out headlining tours in the US and UK, and made a name for themselves at festivals such as Lollapalooza, Vans’ Warped Tour, Projekt Revolution (Europe), SXSW, Give It A Name (Europe), and Soundwave (Australia). They have also managed to make a name for themselves as sought-after remixers and DJs, providing remixes for Katy Perry, Keane, The Killers, 30 Seconds To Mars, Cobra Starship, 3OH!3 and more. Most recently they have signed with Red Bull Records.
