Jamelia a Superstar? 'Thank You' album

Superstar? Jamelia's hit-single is bringing her the superstar status. Jamelia has had more false starts than an Olympic sprinter but now really is her time to burn bright. Her last single "Superstar" was one of the biggest hits of last year and was still in the Top 50 singles chart three months after release.

"Superstar", which peaked at No 3 has now sold 200,000 copies in the UK alone and was a fixture at the top of the airplay charts for months. But it doesn't end there. The single is poised to emulate its UK success all over Europe; it has gone straight into the French chart at No 10, is in the top 5 in Germany and is in the chart in Austria, Belgium, Holland, Sweden and Switzerland. In addition, "Superstar" is just outside the top 10 in Australia and is No 1 in New Zealand!

Maybe you already heard of Jamelia. Her first single was released in 1999 and she already had 4 Top 40 hits! Then Jamelia got pregnant and effectively put her career on hold, although she continued to write during her pregnancy. In fact, "Bout" featuring underground rapper Rah Digga is the song she was working on at that time. Jamelia also managed to keep her body in shape which the guys will appreciate a lot ;-).

On September 15 Jamelia released "Superstar", followed by the album "Thank You". Both are classics, the album totally redefining what this artist is all about. If "Superstar" is instantly commercial, the album pushes the R & B envelope so far that it bursts open at the sides. Not that it sacrifices tunes for innovation; at the heart of every track is a killer song, it's just everything sounds so fresh and new in a genre filled to capacity with genuine artists and those adopting R & B lite tendencies to get a hit. This is the real thing, not the diffusion line.

The album will be reissued on March 1 with new packaging and an amended track listing. Two new tracks are included, "DJ" and "See It In A Boy's Eyes", the latter written specially for Jamelia by Chris Martin from Coldplay (Jamelia co-wrote the track with Chris, although the bulk of the track is his). The track is not as catchy as 'Superstar' but definitely has an original beat. You might have to listen a couple of times to the track but you will appreciate the track even more. Other notable tracks are 'B.I.T.C.H.' and 'Life'.

Of course 'Superstar' is the hit-single which people can not get out of their mind (I know what I am talking about hehe). The two new tracks give the album that needed finishing touch. Overall Jamelia delivers with 'Thank You' an album with enough good R'n'B to please you.

"See It In A Boys Eyes" will be the single after "Thank You", with a probable June release date.
