The underground's rumor mill has been going into overdrive for the last few weeks, but it's finally time to set the record straight. After a break of 7 years, Global Underground will resurrect their legendary 'nubreed' compilation series, with rising Brit star Jim Rivers stepping up to the plate for the first album.
The DJ mix series that began in 2000, helped launch the careers of some of modern dance music's greatest DJs - Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge, Anthony Pappa and Satoshi Tomiie.
Following that illustrious line up, Jim Rivers has gained a worldwide reputation for his glitchy, groovy electronic sound, with an enviable CV notching up frequent dates at clubs like Ministry of Sound, Shindig and Urban Gorilla in the UK, as well as an international schedule that's seen him return to countless venues across the globe. His production pedigree includes Saved, Bedrock, Global Underground, Mouseville, Four:Twenty, Simple, Renaissance and Saw Recordings, and his own label, Misfit Records.
That’s all we can unleash at the moment, but do hop across to our youtube channel to watch exclusive videos of the NUbreed photo shoot and interview with Jim himself.
Jim Rivers biography
London, Moscow, Sao Paolo, Dublin, Mexico, Shanghai, Athens, Bogota, Singapore, Amsterdam, Novi Sad… in the last year Jim has travelled the world with his techy, glitchy, groovy electronic house music - and looking into the future and at his forthcoming tours and releases, it's all getting crazier, including his debut at Shindig Newcastle back in March alongside Tim Sheridan and his appearance at the Renaissance party back in February alongside Satoshi Tomiie & Audiofly in The Box @ Ministry of Sound London. May saw him play the main room at MOS again; supporting Felix Da Housecat at the launch of his new Global Underground album and then again at MOS during Sasha’s Involver launch party in August.
Jim has continued to build on his reputation since his first release on the respected Saw Recordings in 2006 ('Restore/Future' EP). Since then releases have followed on labels such as Saved, EQ, Baroque, Global Underground, Cr2, Audio Therapy & Renaissance and he has remixed for Nic Fanciulli, Quivver, Gabriel & Dresden and Paul Harris (Positiva) amongst many others. More recently Jim's 2nd EP for Saw, 'I Go Deep' received critical acclaim in the dance music press as well as making the top 10 of the Beatport chart, and being supported across the board by some of the world’s biggest DJ's and taste makers.
November 2007 saw the launch of Jim’s own imprint, Misfit Records. The label allows Jim to release his own music the way he wants to, showcasing his different sounds and ideas. Now into its 4th release and with some great new music and remixers already on board, this will be a label to watch. Keep an eye out for music from No Brainer, Claes Rosen, Robytek and Kos over the coming months.

Jim has also developed a studio partnership with Paolo Mojo, with two tracks already written, the first 'Darkplace' which came on Paolo's own Oosh imprint late last year and the 2nd track, 'Ron Hardy Said', being released on Eric Prydz’s acclaimed Mouseville Records in October. Will Saul, head honcho of ethereal UK label Simple Records has recently released Jim’s new single entitled “Mirage”, featuring are remix from Tobias.
Further projects include a specially commissioned 2 track EP for John Digweed’s Bedrock imprint entitled "Empathy EP" [released 29th September], a remix for Patric la Funk’s Timbee label, remixes for Bedrock - Morgan Page & Gregory Shiff feat. Astrid Suryanto "All I Know", Lexicon Avenue "Pursuit" on Forensic, Milton Jackson & Sei A "Glasgow Kiss" on Urban Torque, Lil Dirty "Vintage" on We Love Muzik and for Tomoki & Nobo "Park in the Morning" on King Street. Jim is also busily writing an EP for Four:Twenty along with a number of other projects for Misfit Records.
The last few months have seen Jim gigging all over the world in some of the best clubs on offer today. Whether it’s a beach party in Athens, Pacha in Sao Paolo or a dark sweaty club in Moscow, Jim has been taking his sound and vibe to dance floors across the globe and getting rave reviews along the way. 21st February saw Jim’s guest mix debut on John Digweed’s acclaimed Transitions Radio show, followed by his DJ debut at super club Zouk in Singapore. In July he visited South America for a 4 date tour for Global Underground including Pacha Buenos Aires and dates in Cordoba, Guatemala and Peru. He's just returned from 5 dates in Japan, including an extended 5 hour set @ AIR Tokyo for a Saw Records party and over the coming weeks he debuts @ Urban Gorilla Sheffield and travels back to Russia for the first of the Misfit Records parties.
With the acclaimed launch of Misfit Records, the release of the Audio Therapy Spring/Summer Sampler (mixed by Jim Rivers) and a host of new productions and continued touring, Jim is without doubt one of the brightest prospects of the UK scene at the moment...watch this boy fly!
