Jin 'ABC' album - MusicRemedy

When asked what is the inspiration behind the "ABC" album, Jin simply replies, "This is more than just beats & rhymes. This is my identity." Truer words were never spoken. ABC, short for American Born Chinese is the unofficial term coined after Chinese individuals that were not born in their native land of China, but instead on foreign soil. In this case, America. For many, being an ABC often means being subjected to a certain degree of scrutiny. On one hand, because of your bloodline and complexion you are viewed as a foreigner in your own place of birth. Meanwhile, because of your geographical origins your peers back in China claim you are not "truly Chinese". Thus leaving you on neither side of the fence. Jin's parents are both from Hong Kong aka "The New York City of China". Jin himself however, was born in Miami,Florida, making him the ABC posterchild.

He grew up in a household that emphasized family values and hardwork religiously. Like most Chinese children, Jin's life revolved around traditional Sunday dimsum outings and celebrating holidays like Chinese New Years or the Lunar Festival. At a young age, he fell in love with Hiphop. This didn't change his routine. It just meant finding time to recite his favorite lyrics in between watching Chinese soap operas. Unnoticingly, Jin managed to successfully balance his interest in Chinese culture and his steadily growing persona as a young Asian American. Meaning he can tell you who the original 9 members of the Wu Tang Clan are and in the same breath name a list of several Chinese pop icons just as easily.

..And there you have the foundation for the "ABC" album. Together, CraftyPlugz (Kamel Pratt) & Catch Music Group(Carl Choi) bring to you a sound that has never been heard before and a story that has never been told. This will be Jin's first album recorded in his native tongue, Cantonese. With FarEastMovement providing the soundscape and Jin as the narrarator we invite you into the world and mind of a true ABC. In the big picture, the underlying theme throughout "ABC" is not at all about being Chinese or American. It's about being yourself.
