Universal South announced today that Joe Nichols new CD, III, will be in stores October 25th, 2005. The upcoming CD features the sly and bouncy first single, “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off.” The song is already the fastest rising single of his career. His debut CD, Man With A Memory, issued two back-to-back multi-week #1 singles, earned him four Grammy nominations, a slew of awards and honors, and sold a million plus records. The follow-up was the critically acclaimed Revelation, a CD that further established Nichols as an artist with depth and staying power.
Now III is poised to make the same sort of noise. According to Nichols, he decided to dig back into his roots for this CD and create an LP’s worth of tunes that reminded him of the great hard core country music he and his dad Mike, a long haul truck driver, would listen to during his youth. Nichols has long admired artists like Gene Watson, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, and knew with his third release for Universal South, that was the direction he wanted to take with his new CD.
“I think that country music fans have a real affinity for that kind of country music,” Nichols said. “My goal for this new CD was to remain true to the essence, the feel and the message of the music of those times, and give them a more up to date spin. I feel like I have been able to do that. Some themes are timeless and universal—relatable no matter if it’s 1955 or 2005, and those are the kinds of songs I tend to gravitate to. Plus with this CD, I just wanted to have some fun—and I think you get the hint with this first single!”
To accomplish his goal, Nichols enlisted the aid of three of Nashville’s most gifted and diverse producers: Brent Rowan, Buddy Cannon and Byron Gallimore. Each producer brought his own special talents to the project.
“It was great working with these three talented producers,” Nichols said. “They each have their own ‘feel’ they bring to the music, yet when all of these songs are put together on this CD, it has a very cohesive and matched sound and flow.”
