Lack 'Be There Pulse' album

They said it had to start somewhere, it had to start someplace. The history of Lack is quite simple: Four youngsters meet somewhere in Denmark, driven by mutual desire to transform the trivial dullness of their surroundings into challenging, meaningful and personal music. It began quietly. From there on the stone rolled, song by song, show by show, tour by tour. Desire. Excitement. As we reached the summer of 2001, we were facing the release of our debut album ‘Blues Moderne:Danois explosifs’, an event preceded by and achieved via two self released 7” and by touring in the western parts of Europe.

With this record we plunged ourselves into a hectic year saturated with more than a 100 shows distributed among 3 European and 1 US tour. A process as rich in disasters, theft, chaos and economic misery as it was in adventures, wonders and amazing experiences.
As of today we have played roughly 250 shows.
But after the 2002 US tour things fell apart, for the centre could not hold: All energy, desire, ambition and creativity had disappeared as we traversed the old American soil.
So, many months later, when we reunited as a band at the rendezvous, we were painfully aware that we could no longer be satisfied with mere repeating of what we had already done. Something had to happen, but what? Thus we restarted 2½ years ago and now we are here, again at the border, again facing something new and unknown. During the lost time we have reinvented what it means to make a Lack song; how it has to be played and why; what words have to be uttered and where we want our music to take us.

There is pulse!

’Be There Pulse’, a new Lack record has been recorded in three weeks at studio Overlook in the Swedish city of Gävle, engineered and mixed by William Blackmon, produced by Lack (and saved by gallons of pitch black coffee). Lack’s final becoming took place in this refugium: The vocals found their expression; the guitars found the right lack of distortion and the musical structures found their form. And we found ten new songs, all totally their own.
’Be There Pulse’ was released in the spring 2005 by Play/Rec (DK), Undergroove (UK) and Riptide (DE). All labels working with a distinct independent and alternative approach to being a label, profiles perfectly matching Lack’s ambition to govern our own fate. Compared to the genuine hardcore feel of the debut album ’Blues Moderne…’, then ’Be There Pulse’ appears to be a musical quantum leap. Lack has managed to create something we could not find within our record collections, and we have done so without compromising or surrendering depth, energy or integrity. We are not people to renounce our past. We just don’t like to repeat it.
