Italian rockers Lacuna Coil have just released their video for "Spellbound." The Saku-directed clip was filmed at the Dolce & Gabbana Gold restaurant in Milan, Italy which reflects lead singer Cristina Scabbia's passion for fashion and cooking. In the same vein as Evanescence and Flyleaf, Lacuna Coil boasts powerful female vocals against a backdrop of haunting melodies and catchy guitar riffs.

"Spellbound" comes off Lacuna Coil's new album, Shallow Life, which hits stores on April 21st. The band's fifth studio album was recorded with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles.

There is no doubt that one of the most anticipated new releases of 2009 is SHALLOW LIFE, the eagerly awaited new studio album from Italian sensation LACUNA COIL. Recorded with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles, the first full-length studio album since the 2006 release Karmacode is undeniably a huge step forward in the band’s musical evolution, and promises to be well worth the wait.

Cristina Scabbia (vocals) states: “Shallow Life is a natural metamorphosis from within the band; we explored different musical territories while maintaining our own style. A mix of old and new, fast and slow and light and dark. The album production is incredibly powerful and has a beautiful purity to it. Hopefully listeners will feel the same sort of connection that we have to these songs. Shallow Life has forced us to challenge ourselves. It represents the way we see ourselves in the days we live in through truth, love and lies.”

Fans eager to hear new material won’t have to wait long as the band plans to debut new songs from the album starting on March 20th as Lacuna Coil joins such hard rock titans as Disturbed and Killswitch Engage on the “Music As A Weapon IV” tour. The 38-city tour crisscrosses the U.S. before finishing May 16th and will mark the band’s first run of American dates in almost 2 years.

The American breakthrough for LACUNA COIL -- whose moniker translates to "empty spiral" in English, betraying the rich versatility of their music -- began with 2001's Unleashed Memories album. However, it was the runaway success of 2002's Comalies that became the foundation on which the band’s success was built. The album was praised by the likes of Entertainment Weekly, Revolver, Rolling Stone, Stuff and virtually every hard rock/metal publication of note. Soon after the album’s release, the group’s profile grew tenfold thanks to aggressive touring with the likes of P.O.D., Opeth, Anthrax, Type O Negative and Danzig. With the success of the album’s first single, “Heaven’s A Lie,” Billboard called the band “one of the larger success stories in metal,” as MTV2 and Fuse put the track’s video into heavy rotation and the song itself graced commercial radio airwaves across the country and planted itself within the R&R Active Rock Top 30 Chart. Prominent Boston station WAAF led the charge, inviting LACUNA COIL to appear at its annual Locobazooka festival (alongside such major acts as Staind and Sevendust) in addition to performing acoustically on the air.

In early 2004, LACUNA COIL’s successes were validated with an invitation to participate in that year’s Ozzfest, supporting such metal stalwarts as Judas Priest, Slayer and Ozzy himself. LACUNA COIL offered something unique to the package that ultimately struck a chord with fans, resulting in their being hailed as the year’s breakthrough artist. Over the course of the massive two-month trek, the group also SoundScanned more units per week than any other band on the bill second only to the platinum-selling artist Slipknot. The radio success of "Heaven's A Lie" waned only as the popularity of the second single, "Swamped" increased at Active Rock and even found its way on to more than a dozen Alternative stations as well.

The group kicked off the Karmacode album’s extensive touring cycle with a high profile, sold-out six-week U.S. trek as direct support to Rob Zombie, which was capped off with a performance on ABC-TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! The summer of 2006 was spent on the main stage of Ozzfest playing alongside such acclaimed acts as System Of A Down, Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold, as Scabbia became the first female front woman ever to grace the fest’s main stage. LACUNA COIL also scored a Top 30 Active Rock hit single with the track “Our Truth” in addition to being featured on the covers of such esteemed publications as Revolver, Metal Edge, Outburn and Decibel, among a slew of others. Subsequent major tours with the likes of Active Rock giants Stone Sour alongside a celebrated headlining run made 2007 will be LACUNA COIL’s most successful year to date.

With five full-length albums and two EPs now to their credit, LACUNA COIL have ensured that each offering further enunciates the subtle, solemn beauty they create. Shallow Life takes that a step further, seeing them further mature as musicians and songwriters to deliver what may-well-be a career-defining album.
