X Factor champion Leon Jackson triumphantly returns to the UK music scene this autumn with his eagerly anticipated new single ‘Don’t Call This Love’, released via Syco Music/SonyBMG.
‘Don’t Call This Love’ is an emotive and heartfelt love song, beautifully showcasing Leon’s smooth vocal talent. With lush strings, soaring harmonies and an indelible melody, the track creates a sound that is both soft and mellow, yet still unmistakably ‘Leon’.
Leon will debut the single on the first live studio show of this year’s X Factor on Saturday October 11th. Fans will then be able to download the single at midnight shortly after his performance.
Leon says: “’Don’t Call This Love’ is my favourite song on the album. I love the fact it has a really individual sound. It’s about someone who’s been hurt and they don’t want to be deceived anymore, so they’re saying to their partner “don’t you dare call this love”. It’s a really charismatic song”.
Shortly after winning the UK’s biggest talent contest late last year, Leon hit the top of the charts with his debut single ‘When You Believe’ claiming both the Christmas No.1 and the title of fastest selling single of 2007. A headlining slot on the massive X Factor Live Tour followed, with Leon wowing audiences and critics alike.
19 year old Leon has since spent the last six months recording with A grade songwriters and producers such as Steve Robson (Take That, James Morrison) and Peter Gordeno (Seal) to create a collection of superb contemporary songs, drawing influences from the worlds of both pop and jazz.
Leon’s long awaited debut album ‘Right Now’ will be released on October 20th and fans of his amazing performances won't be disappointed by his smooth and rich vocal delivery across the tracks.
Leon is rightly proud of the album: “The music is really a mixture of modern jazz with singer-songwriter elements. A lot of it is really soulful. When I was recording I drew on all the musical influences that I like from James Morrisson to Amy Winehouse to Duffy and Michael Buble, but it’s really my own sound”.
biography
Following months of fevered speculation and anticipation, X Factor winner Leon Jackson finally releases his debut single ‘When You Believe’ through Syco Music/SonyBMG.
His boundless determination and increasingly stellar performances have seen eighteen year old Leon beat 150,000 other hopefuls to win the biggest talent show on TV. After a nail biting final featuring the man himself, operatic maestro Rhydian and pop duo Same Difference, Leon Jackson has been voted champion of ITV1’s X Factor.
18 year old Leon was bought up in West Lothian, Scotland, and is an only child. He realised he could forge a career in music after his friends continually complimented him on his gorgeous voice, dragging him to karaoke on a weekly basis! Leon adores contemporary jazz and cites his influences as Michael Bublé and Jamie Callum. Apart from his keen hobby of karate (he’s a black belt) Leon says that singing is his single biggest passion. Had he not been triumphant on X Factor, he would be starting university to undertake an Architectural Technology course.
Leon now releases his first single ‘When You Believe’, a new twist on the song made famous by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. The track has been re-written exclusively for Leon by the original song writer Stephen Schwartz and moulds itself perfectly around his own sumptuous sound.
The CD single and digital download is available now. The CD release will also feature two bonus tracks – Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ and Michael Bublé’s ‘Home’, both of which Leon performed and recording during his tenure on the show.
