Fleetwood Mac front man Lindsey Buckingham will release his first solo album in nearly fifteen years, October 3 on Reprise Records. Entitled Under the Skin, the album is Buckingham’s fourth solo recording. A tour is scheduled to start in October; dates will be announced shortly.

On Under the Skin, which Buckingham produced, he plays virtually all of the instruments and sings all of the vocal parts, making for an album that is simultaneously richly layered and personal and intimate.

The recording seamlessly brings together the accessibility of Buckingham’s talents for the unexpected, his knack for memorable melodies, his virtuosic fingerstyle guitar, his singing range, and his mastery at creating soundscapes.

Under the Skin is Buckingham’s first solo album since Out of the Cradle (1992), which The New York Times called “one of the most exquisitely textured rock albums ever made.” The Times also said the album “demonstrates Mr. Buckingham’s brilliance at using the recording studio to create intricate interior dramas in which ambiance and an allusive pop sensibility matter more than the actual words and music.” The Los Angeles Times described the live show following that album as “triumphant.”

In the time since Out of the Cradle, Buckingham has undertaken and set aside a solo release twice for Fleetwood Mac projects: first, for the retrospective live album The Dance (1998), and after its immense success, the platinum-certified Say You Will (2003).

Since 1975 when he and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham has lent his unique talents as a singer, songwriter, producer arranger and guitarist, to some of the biggest selling and most critically acclaimed albums of all time. Rolling Stone magazine calls him “one of rock’s most undervalued visionaries.” He was largely responsible for masterminding the sound of the new Fleetwood Mac heard on Rumours, one of the best selling albums of all time. Never content with the status quo, Buckingham refused to settle for mere commercial excellence and continued to push one of the most popular rock and roll bands in the world to the cutting edge of rock/pop experimentation. The result was Tusk, one of the most surprising and critically acclaimed albums in rock history.

On Under the Skin, Lindsey Buckingham continues to innovate ambitiously, though his voice and sound are still unmistakable as his. “I have a family and with that comes new insights and some maturity,” he says. “Yet, I have continued my experimental approach, which comes from years of work in the outer region, distilling down to the essence. It has been a long time in between albums and, even with the songs I contributed to Fleetwood Mac, I had a lot of material to choose from. I am three quarters of the way towards completing the follow up to Under the Skin. It will be very different and I would like to get that finished next year.”
