Loudon Wainwright III - Here Come the Choppers

Since 1968 Loudon Wainwright III (b.1946) has been writing and recording his own songs and performing them throughout North America, Europe and Australia. His material is intended to amuse, move, entertain, educate, and irritate and not necessarily in that order. It can be autobiographical, topical, serious, silly and on occasion is a combination of any or even all of the aforementioned. Favorite topics include death and decay, the family, the search for love, pets, and whoever happens to be President of The United States.

In 1972 Wainwright’s novelty song “Dead Skunk” reached #12 on the Billboard charts. He appeared as Capt. Calvin Spalding the singing surgeon, in 3 episodes of the hit T.V. show M.A.S.H. during that show’s 3rd season. In the 1980s his albums “I’m Alright” and “More Love Songs” were nominated for Grammy awards. He was once referred to as “wacky” by Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. Mr. Wainwright’s topical songs have been broadcast on NPR’s “Morning Edition” and ABC’s “Nightline”. He also hosted his own weekly music show for BBC Scotland television in1996. On several occasions the singer/songwriter has been an answer on “Jeopardy”. In April of 2005 Loudon Wainwright III’s latest album “Here Come The Choppers” will be released by Sovereign Artists. It was produced by Lee Townsend, and features the musicians Bill Frisell, Jim Keltner, Greg Leisz, and David Piltch.

Loudon Wainwright is an actor who appeared as the dysfunctional Dad on the Fox TV show “Undeclared.” He played opposite Dame Edna Everage on “Ally McBeal” and was the Mayor of Spectre in Tim Burton’s movie “Big Fish.” Loudon and his two oldest children Rufus and Martha all have singing cameos in Martin Scorsese’s film “The Aviator” and later this year Wainwright (the elder) can be seen as Orlando Bloom’s Uncle Dale in Cameron Crowe’s “Elizabethtown”. Loudon Wainwright and Loudon
Wainwright III are one and the same.
