The drifters, loners and ne'er-do-wells on Luke Doucet The White Falcon's new album 'Blood's Too Rich' (Six Shooter, June 24th) really get around. Take the weary, eponymous hero of opener "Long Haul Driver," on the road for 2000 miles, or the in-crisis loser heading west in "Motorbike." Elsewhere, Doucet's bar rats and greasy drunkards make stops in Cleveland, Woodstock and California. These tales are married to Neil Young and Crazy Horse/The Band-inspired swaggering stompers, loping, loose guitar showcases and delicate acoustic numbers.
It's sobering to find that the stories on Blood's Too Rich are (mostly) true. If not entirely autobiographical, they are rooted in the musican's own experiences. (All of them, that is, except for the Cure cover, "The Lovecats").
