MADCON is Tshawe Baqwa & Yosef Wolde-Mariam. If you don’t know them now, you will be 2009. Their musical style is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before - a retro-urban-mix with influences of funk, soul and hip hop (with additional “vibes” from reggae, Latin and African genres). MADCON blend singing and rapping in a unique way, once and best described as Outkast meets The Roots meets Black Eyed Peas meets Gnarls Barkley. The first time you hear them you won’t be able to get the melodies and grooves out of your head.
Coming out of Norway, MADCON quickly established themselves in the Nordic music industry as "everybody’s favorite rappers." They created a remarkable groundswell by supporting international superstars on tour such as Destiny's Child, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Wu- Tang Clan, Xzibit, Saian Supa Crew, Clipse, Redman, Busta Rhymes and others. With an energetic live show, the headliners had a lot to live up to after MADCON left the stage.
MADCON released their first single "God Forgive Me" in 2000, but their first commercial breakthrough was with long time collaborators Paperboys with the hit single "Barcelona" in 2002. This enabled the group to release their first official album "It's All a MADCON" in 2004 which went on to win a Norwegian Grammy and several other awards.
In 2005 MADCON became TV-personalities on the Nordic music channel The Voice, while continuing to work on their music in the Studio. The show “The Voice of MADCON” became a huge success for both MADCON and the network, showcasing the behind-the-scenes life of Norway’s favorite rap stars. The following they had in their native country was priming them for the music explosion to come.
In 2007, Tshawe decided to compete on the hugely popular show "Dancing with the Stars" in Norway. Against all odds, he left the show as the champion. The country and media were crazy for MADCON, who was smart enough to release their brand new single “Beggin’” (a cover version of the old Frankie Valli classic) at the same time. It immediately became a smash hit and the first urban track in Norway to go all the way to the top of the sales and radio charts. Their second album, "So Dark the Con of Man," was released in Norway in December 2007, and went Gold in 3 hours, Platinum in 3 days.
The seemingly unstoppable single “Beggin’” went 7 x platinum in Norway, becoming one of the biggest hits of all time on the Norwegian charts, sending waves throughout all of Europe. The song was quickly and became a smash hit all over the European radio and sales charts.
2009 finds MADCON ready to claim the well deserved title of “biggest hip hop act in Europe,” with a CD release releases on Plateau/Universal/Republic combining new music and older tracks from their previous albums.
