With a name like Brett Bouldin as a producer, Hip Hop artist Malverde enrolled only the best for his new CD/DVD relaunch in stores on February 21st. This time around Malverde gives us an inside scoop on him, his music and his fans. Directed by award winner and Oscar nominated director Joel Juarez, the 10 minute featurette, shows Malverde performing at various venues across Los Angeles and the Latin Rap Conference in New York, as well as other inside details on his life. Juarez, is a recent graduate of the prestigious UCLA School of Film & Television where he earned an MFA in Directing. His previous film, Pelea De Gallos, (The Cock Fight), a black comedy, premiered on Showtime in 2004, and won Best Short Film at both the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and at the San Diego Latino International Film Festival 2004. A.P. Gonzalez, co-chair of the Latino committee of the DGA, praises, "Joel gives us something original that we hardly get to see. He will be one of the people who bridges our two cultures.” Making him the best partner with Malverde’s movement.

    Biography

“…no other Latino rapper has been able to come close to Big Pun’s multi-platinum legacy. But most attempt to retrace Pun’s footsteps, Mexican-American rapper Malverde aims to blaze a new trail of his own.” – “Off the Radar” The Source Magazine

“…needless to say, when the man, the myth, the legend took the stage, the show reached fist-pumping status” 5 STARS - Batanga Magazine (at the recent LRC Conference)

“Malverde’s name is sure to resonant in the Latin community. Malverde with his rich lyrics and sound loaded with long forgotten expressions of another time is giving to a culturally needy audience the most precious gift… “Mi Palabra: marks a historic moment based on its impressive musical quality, prolific lyrics and the real sound behind its interpreter. – Str8hiphop.com

Malverde is the Mexican legend said to have been a Robin Hood type who stole from the rich and gave to the poor at the turn of the last century in Culiacan, Sinaloa Mexico. Now, the artist, Malverde with his rich lyrics and sound loaded with long forgotten expressions of another time is giving to a culturally needy audience a most precious gift. This production recorded entirely in Spanish has been appropriately named “Mi Palabra”, which translates to “My Word” in stores on February 21st. "The story of the Legend of Malverde is one that is dear to my heart” he explains.

Jesus Malverde, the artist, was born in Coachella, California. Growing up in a town mostly consisting of Mexican farm laborers, opportunities weren't the best. His salvation was his education, a B.A. in Political Science, and his poetry. "As I started to develop my style," adds Malverde, "my initial themes were about street life which was my environment at the time. Now my lyrical focus is more universal, about life, action and consequence, and ultimately the lessons learned. "

Mi Palabra marks a historic moment based on its impressive musical quality, prolific lyrics and the real soul behind its interpreter. The Album includes 13 cuts in Spanish. "The title track, Mi Palabra has a lot to do with the importance of the values my grandfather taught me," adds Malverde, the artist, "the importance of keeping your word, and the consequences if you do otherwise. Another track entitled Mi Corrido (My Story or Legendary Tale) covers the ups and downs of life and its experiences. The track finds a closing on what could be my Corrido."

Malverde is not new to the scene; he has collaborated with B. Real from Cypress Hills, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas and Son Doobie of Funk Doobiest. Today after many years of development, Malverde continues to rely on the guidance and eclectic production that Brett Bouldin, known for his work with 7A3, Funkdoobiest, and Cypress Hill brings to the table. He has shared the stage with the likes of Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon, Ivy Queen, Don Omar, Wisin y Yandel and Akwid among others.
