Demon Vision is proud to announce the 17th April 2006 release of 'T. REX ON TV - A T. REX COMPENDIUM', the first official archive DVD to compile a collection of Marc Bolan and T. Rex's quintessential television appearances on French, German and UK television pop programmes through the seventies.
This fascinating, must-have three-and-a-half-hour music archive DVD showcases five different sections that can be easily accessed in any running order:
The definitive 56-minute documentary "DANDY IN THE UNDERWORLD", produced in 1997 by Granada TV for Channel 4 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Bolan's untimely death. Using archive footage of performance and interviews, the documentary recalls his early career, period in the band John's Children, Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex, his progression from obscurity to superstar and subsequent decline. The film looks at influences on his music including the hippie movement, underground, and soul music, his innovative glam rock style and major influence on the punk scene.
The film features contributions from all the major players in Marc's career, including his partner Gloria Jones, Rolan Bolan (son), Harry Feld (brother), Morrissey, T.Rex producer Tony Visconti, Siouxsie Sioux, Billy Idol, publicist Keith Altham, Holly Johnson, childhood friend Eric Hall, former John's Children manager Simon Napier Bell, former NME journalist Charles Shaar Murray, DJ and former Old Grey Whistle Test presenter Bob Harris, T.Rex drummer Bill Legend, Steve Harley, Marsha Hunt and many more.
'"IT'S ABOUT ME REALLY…." - INTERVIEWS AND MUSIC' centres on the 25 minute "Music In The Round" programme recorded in late 1971. In between four live performances of the classics Jeepster, Cadilac, Spaceball Ricochet and Telegram Sam, Marc is interviewed by legendary arts programme maker Humphrey Burton, who at 41 is apparently already too old to rock and roll! Also included is a nine minute interview with Russell Harty from 1972.
"TEN GREATEST HITS" features rarely-seen performances of T. Rex's most successful singles from 1971-1974 on various French, German and British television pop shows. Song performances include Ride A White Swan, Hot Love, Get It On, Jeepster, Telegram Sam, Metal Guru, Children Of The Revolution, Solid Gold Easy Action, 20th Century Boy and Teenage Dream.
The "SUPERSONIC" section features over 50 minutes worth of ultra-rare clips from the fondly-remembered mid-seventies pop show, containing some seventeen performances, most of which have not been seen since their original airing. Song performances include The Soul Of My Suit, New York City, I Love To Boogie, Funky London Childhood, Crimson Moon, Laser Love, Ride A White Swan, Telegram Sam, Dreamy Lady, and a duet with Gloria Jones performing the Phil Spector's classic To Know You Is To Love You.
"BOLAN '77" rounds up seven songs from the Granada series "MARC" that Bolan had just finished recording when he passed away, along with two live performances from the kids' pop quiz show "Get It Together". Song performances include Dandy In The Underworld, Groove A Little, Celebrate Summer, Let's Dance, Sing Me A Song, Endless Sleep and Debora.
The T.Rex Legacy Lives On...
In the early 1970's T.Rex became renowned worldwide for breaking new musical ground at a time when people were tiring of the hippie movement and flower power. Despite Marc's untimely death in 1977, the success and continuing influence and impact of T.Rex and Bolan's foresight as a rock visionary is undeniable. Like Elvis Presley and John Lennon, Bolan's popularity continues to grow yearly. At the height of their success British newspapers claimed T.Rex was "Bigger than the Beatles". At their peak (1972) the band reportedly sold up to 100,000 records per day. Over the years the music of T.Rex has been used in countless TV adverts and movies, including Billy Elliott, The Truman Show and Velvet Goldmine. Currently, 'Get It On' is featured in Sam Mendes' critically acclaimed new war movie 'Jarhead' starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Today, many new recording artists, including Goldfrapp and Franz Ferdinand, continue to draw inspiration from the infectious, distinctive and revolutionary sound of T.Rex. Artists that have covered T.Rex songs include Blondie ('Get It On'), The Power Station ('Get It On), Morrissey ('Cosmic Dancer'), Siouxsie and the Banshees (20th Century Boy), Boy George ('Life's A Gas'), Bauhaus ('Telegram Sam'), Bono and Gavin Friday (Children Of The Revolution'), Placebo ('20th Century Boy'), Shakespeare's Sister ('Hot Love'), to name but a few.
