Mary J Blige 'No More Drama' album

Born in Atlanta on January 11, 1971, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mary J. Blige has risen to the status of one of the most respected and acclaimed R&B and hip hop divas of the 90s. Mary's talent for success comes from her ability to blend pure R&B vocals, hip-hop beats, and streetwise appearances. Mary J Blige is the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul." With her new album "No More Drama", Mary shows how she is now more in touch with her roots and more grounded.

This album continues the story of Mary's journey away from the problems of the heart. In this album Mary gives herself commandments and warns off anyone who would dare tread on her feelings.

The album still carries the story of the church-woman passion, the moans and warbles that once announced her pain but this time around Mary shows more contentment in her writing.

Mary says "The album is about my joy; that I do have some. It's not just a happy-go-lucky album. There's no more abuse, no more drug abuse, no more people controlling my emotions. There are so many die-hard fans who wanted to see me happy. Now that I'm happy, everybody that loves me will hopefully be happy with me and for me".

Mary is also keen to point out that the album shows her pride in who she is and where she is from. "I play a big part in my society; I play a big part in my culture. I am the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul".

To help her record this album Mary studied the Bible. "It made me feel that I am not shit. But I'm somebody, all day and all night. Mary has come back and she is now really positive about herself and her music. "You get tired of people controlling your every thought. You're ugly, your fat, you aint gonna make any money. These are the seeds that are planted, and they begin to grow".

The release of 'No More Drama' shows that Mary has evolved much more musically in comparison to previous releases. "I just know what I want. I know exactly what my people want to hear because I am them. I just write honestly".

Highlights of the album include the current single "Family Affair" where Mary's soulful voice is portrayed. The song also has a very catch beat. Mary pours out all of her emotions on the heartfelt poem entitled "Forever No More". Then there is "PMS' where Mary wants to 'talk to the ladies'. The whole five minutes of this song is spent telling the listener all about the joys of PMS. Lyrics include 'today I'm not feelin' pretty...I just wanna be left alone'. Enough said!

The title track "No More Drama" is also worth noting. Telling the story of all 'lessons learned' it is a beautiful song which features Mary's soulful vocals against numerous piano interludes.

Overall this album is a stunning collection of tracks by the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. "No More Drama will ensure that this title belongs to Mary for many more years to come! *D
