The public’s fascination with “American Idol” is evident by the success that not only the winners, but finalists enjoy after their season’s competition is over. But what about those who lose in the earlier rounds – what does the experience do to their dreams? For Patrick Hall, being eliminated the very first week after getting to the top 24 on last seasons “American Idol” turned out to be the inspiration for him to take his music career to the next level and go for it.

“What a lot of people may not realize is that before the season even hits the TV screen, the competition has been going on for months. You keep getting to the next rung and you start believing you have a chance to be the next American Idol,” Hall explains. “When the actual televised competition began, I told myself that the initial goal was to get to the Top 12. When I got eliminated so early in the televised competition, I had a lot of pent up sadness and anger. I found myself questioning my song choice, my wardrobe, and of course my performance. I really felt I never had a chance to show what I am capable of.”

Instead of letting those emotions hold him back or beat him down, though, Hall decided to turn that negative into a positive. “I was helped when Nayan Lassiter, a music industry executive and producer, gave me a call after I was off the show. I remember he was very encouraging. He told me ‘Everyone loses sometimes, even Tiger Woods. Nobody wins all of the time.’” That conversation was the spark, and it sent Lassiter and Patrick back into the studio where they wrote “One For The Ages” which is not only about Patrick’s personal experience of being on “American Idol” and falling short, but about the whole process of trying to win at anything in life.

“After the song was done,” Patrick goes on, “Nayan told me that he was starting a new record label and asked me if I’d be interested in being his debut release. Think about it,” Hall laughs, “from one day to the next I go from being eliminated to having a record deal.”

Now, the song, which is the first single off Patrick’s upcoming album, also titled One For The Ages, on Ni-Fi Records has been made into a video which takes an amusing look at the whole talent competition procedure. “There’s a little bit of parody of Randy, Simon and Paula,” Hall teases, “but also a lot of poking fun at myself. I remember all the trepidation I had in my earliest talent recitals back in grade school That was as much a motivation for the video as American Idol was.”

“One For The Ages,” the single, is now available and currently being added at various Top 40 stations around the USA. One For The Ages, the album, is slated for a February 2007 release.

    Biography

Arkansas native, Patrick Hall, is the quintessential songsmith. Born in the Spring of ’78, he started singing at the age of five for his local church. Piano lessons quickly followed and playing the ivory keys turned into a lifelong passion. We all know his talents for music led him recently to the fifth edition of American Idol where, hastily and somewhat unfairly, he was voted off. Not one to coward, Patrick continued on with his number one priority – to write, sing and record his debut album “One for The Ages,” slated for release in early 2007. To set-up the release of his debut album, Ni-Fi records is releasing in October 2006, a promotional copy of his album-titled first single. The song “One for the Ages” has undeniable pop appeal, intelligent and catchy lyric set to an infectious melody.

Who is this guy and why should we take note? Like the piano heroes of his youth, especially Elton John and Billy Joel, Patrick Hall combines exquisite piano-playing skills with deeply personal, passionate and heartfelt songs. His mother, Faye, who passed away suddenly in 1997 of a brain aneurism, is his inspiration. “She is at the core of a lot of the music that I’ve written. It was music that helped me through my grief. I spent a lot of time at the piano, writing music through some pretty intense pain,” he says. The support of his father, Billy a prominent physician, and his two brothers and two sisters, and as many nieces and nephews, is what he says keeps him grounded and focused. “Music is all I’ve ever wanted to do with my life,” says Patrick.

After a brief stint at John Brown University as a pre-med major, Patrick turned his attention full-time to his music career. He played on cruise ships, in Las Vegas, up and down the Southeast and finally for millions of us on TV. His trials and tribulations competing on American Idol clearly inspired this first single, but it is his journey from boy piano player to the full-grown singer/songwriter he has become that drives it. In an age where songs on the radio seem to be at an all time low in terms of lyrical content, Patrick’s music is a refreshing alternative that clearly refocuses on the importance of the art of songwriting. Humble, gracious, determined and definitely a little more thickskinned, Patrick Hall is here to show you that he is the consummate artist and entertainer.
