Paul Anka 'Rock Swings -Live At The Montreal Jazz Festival' album

Paul Anka’s “Rock Swings Live at the Montréal Jazz Festival” DVD, which features performances from his wildly popular “Rock Swings” album, will be released Tuesday, December 6th by Verve. The DVD was recorded on July 8 at Montreal’s famous Wilfrid Pelletier Theatre in front of a sold-out crowd. Anka performed classics including “Diana,” “My Way,” and “You Are My Destiny” as well as tracks from his “Rock Swings” album such as R.E.M’s “Everybody Hurts,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven.” Special features on the album include a performance of “Lonely Boy,” “Times of Your Life” and two performances Live @ The Orange Lounge.

Anka’s “Rock Swings” album has been an international hit. It has been certified gold in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Canada. The album topped the UK jazz chart and was in the top ten on the UK album chart. The concept album takes rock songs from the ‘80s and ‘90s and “swings” them by adding big band arrangements and Anka’s familiar sound. Songs other than those that are featured on the DVD include Van Halen’s “Jump,” Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”

In support of his album and DVD, Anka has made television appearances worldwide. He recently appeared on “Star Academy” in France where he earned the highest ratings for the night and has also appeared on BBC World News’ “Hard Talk Extra,” BBC1’s “Children In Need” and appealed to a younger audience on TF1’s “La Methode Cauet” in France. Since the release of his album in the United States, Anka has appeared on Howard Stern, Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America, The View, Indie 103.1 with Sex Pistol’s Steve Jones, National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, Larry King Live, ABC News Nightline, Entertainment Tonight and Fox & Friends . Another holiday performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live is scheduled for the week of December 19. Anka has also been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto and was awarded the prestigious Order of Canada in Ottawa this year.

Since the inception of his career almost five decades ago, Anka’s songs have been performed well over 150 million times (BMI statistic) while his LP and single sales collectively number more than 60 million. This makes Anka the only artist with number-one albums over the course of five decades and ensures his place among a few select artists in history to have a record on Billboard’s Top 50 chart for six consecutive decades.
