Peasant, the musical alter ego of Damien DeRose, was created when the small town of Doylestown, PA provided him with the seemingly perfect series of experiences to create an entirely new breed of songwriting and musicianship.

Having drawn comparisons to acts as diverse as Elliott Smith, Bon Iver, and Simon and Garfunkel, Peasant creates his own beautiful and unique style by finding beauty and comfort in the small things.

Peasant's strengths seem to come from his humble stature, by letting his music speak for and through him. His astonishing ability to quiet nearly any audience with a simple acoustic guitar, an awe-inspiring vocal style, and a personality of timid confidence has landed Peasant shows with National acts including Delta Spirit, Bodies Of Water, Port O’Brien, Illinois and Takka Takka.

    Peasant

Peasant has also been blowing up on the big screen having his songs make their way into popular television shows including “Bones” and “Kyle XY” as well as numerous commercials.

His lyrical honesty and open imagery preclude any notions of forced sincerity. These lyrics, coupled with the lucid musicality of his guitar, justify the popularity of his first release, Fear Not, Distant Lover. Look for Peasant’s new album, On The Ground, out January 27th, 2009 on Paper Garden Records!

In just a few short days, Peasant will embark upon a 3-week journey across the Northeast. Leading into the hard release of “On The Ground” with Team Love (yes, Conor Oberst’s label) helping out with distribution and marketing, the career of Peasant is rapidly progressing.

Having played shows with fellow rising indie-rock bands such as Delta Spirit, Takka Takka, Bodies Of Water and most recently at the Brooklyn Vegan CMJ party (The Muslims, Friendly Fires, Crystal Antlers, Sebastian Grainger, Japanese Motors, etc.), Peasant has his live show polished and the crowds listening.

Also, keep your eyes and ears peeled for Peasant’s debut appearances for studio sessions with Daytrotter, WOXY, LaundroMatinee (My Old Kentucky Blog), and JamNow as well as his music being placed in next year’s new Showtime program, “United States Of Tara”.
