Peasant is the alias of subterranean pop-folkie Damien DeRose. While everything he produces is recorded in what seems like an intimate setting, DeRose avoids the misused lo-fi tag with a sound that's airy, warm, and incredibly inviting. The Wind is a limited-pressing 4-song 7-inch that presents Peasant's minimal and oft-gorgeous folk songs in all their modest glory. The tunes DeRose pens are concise, to-the-point, and overall compelling, and The Wind is as good a starting point as any for this underground talent. Only 200 copies are going to be made, so it's best to get in early so you don't miss out on Peasant's exquisite talents. All tracks clean.
Biography
The four-track vinyl release "The Wind" is a preview to a sophomore full-length album by Peasant that follows hot on the heels of his … debut, "Fear Not, Distant Lover"(2005) which sold out it's first pressing and received doting reviews. "The Wind" also marks the start of an extensive east coast tour for Peasant and his intimate acoustic performances.
Peasant, Bucks County, PA native Damien DeRose, is either oblivious to or unconcerned with the tight rope he's walking. At 20 years old his recent self-released album, "Fear Not…" rapidly took him from bedroom recording and local performances to the head of a garrison. Inspiring devoted international fans and receiving features from venerable indie media sources such as (saidthegramophone.net, Relix, Earfarm.) When the dust settled from the musical scuffle, Peasant emerged, weathered but still young, and dove right into a new round of recordings that will have you slapping your knees and then rubbing your eyes alternately.
"…the lone driving force behind…intimate folk pop…he's worth fifty times what he'd ever charge for his music." -J-sin of Smother.net
On "The Wind" Peasant's lilting melodies and murmured prose filters through gauze curtains. The songs are pulled forward gently by DeRose's persistent and modest acoustic guitar, accented by dreamy synthesizers and distant harmonies. Gliding from strange and eerie dreamscapes to up-tempo marches that echo powerful words of love and contempt. Though the 7" will be a limited release, Peasant fans can look forward to the full-length title "On The Ground" out in Spring 2007.
